John Griffiths, questions whether marketing research can exist without anonymization


of personal data. Discuss the extent to which you agree with this view.

In the statement above I agree that marketing research can exist even without
anonymization because we are aware that there is a big possibility that the gather data
cannot be anonymous. There is a news or study that 99% of Americans can be re-
identified from the anonymous data. We are aware that there is a small percentage of
data will be made available to others especially when we are clinking “I agree with the
terms”. Being anonymous in data collection is impossible because there is still a chance
that our personal data can be trace back to us. Anonymization or data privacy is a big
thing in data collection because the collected data is used to benefit a society or the
organization. Marketing Research is extremely important but does not mean that the
people’s privacy will expose to others.
