Subject : Design Requirement of Tunnel Alignment laboratory test of core sample from

borehole M/S Balaji Test House, Faridabad required following clarification regarding
geotechnical investigation in rock bore holes.

1. As per tender total drill depth through borehole 450m instead at present total drill
depth completed 790m depth in rock.
2. As per BOQ, following seven no test proposed for lab test core samples such as:-
a) Density
b) Water absorption
c) Hardness
d) Unconfined compressive strength
e) Point load index
f) Modulus of Elasticity
g) Abrasion testing
3. Please classify the depth of core sample test in each bore holes (21 No.s) in rock
with respect to tunnel/underground structure.
4. Consider the IRC: SP 91-2010 clause 3.2 Page-19, Clause no. 3.3.3.2 Page-21 clearly
written the test of core sample for design requirement of geotechnical investigation
for tunnel alignment.
5. Based on lithological variation in borehole core samples will be selected in each
lithology to know the behaviour of rock mass w.r.t tunnel/underground structure.
6. M/S Balaji test house request you to approve and mention the depth of core samples
in boreholes for required laboratory test on tunnel alignment/foundation strata.
