We had been practicing for weeks to make our sports day special. Last year, our
dance teacher had put in lots of effort to help us perform a ‘flash mob’ on the sports day
of school, at the ‘Qaddafi stadium’, in front of hundreds of students and their parents
and teachers.
It took us a while to locate the right music, and the right moves for the
performance. At the time, everyone liked the song Shakira ‘Waqa Waqa’, and we
unanimously decided that would be the best performance ever. Every day, after recess,
all the students would gather to practice the routine and, as it got closer and closer to
the final day of school, we got more nervous than we’d ever been.
The day had finally arrived. We were more excited than newborn pups, and our
little hearts were beating fast and our stomachs were full of butterflies. Acting as if we
were totally calm during that day was no mean feat, while the Judge’s voice droned on
and on until suddenly… ‘Poppers Showers’ drop across the stadium. My heart was

beating so fast I could feel it thumping in my chest. My mother and brother were sitting
just in front of me and my father was capturing pictures of me while standing in the
stadium cause our school photographer was late that day. And my father introduced
impressive performance. I think we were more surprised than the audiences that were
watching us. Standing still once again, we got a huge applause. It made us feel so
At least I don’t have to worry about that anymore. That was the best moment I’ve
ever had, and the best performance that students have ever showcased on their final
sports day. But unfortunately, another school students won the first prize. But still we
were very glad to be on second place. I will never forget how I felt on that day, starting
from my stomach full of butterflies, and then leaving the stage full of proudness. It was
