1. The longest chord in a circle with center O has a length 10cm. Chord AB is at a distance of 4cm
from the center. Chord CD measures 8cm and is parallel to chord AB
a. Find the length of chord AB
b. Find how far chord CD is from the center.
c. What special name does quadrilateral ABCD have?

2. A Diwali party was attended by N couples, each with one child. Every child wished every other
child – “Happy Diwali”. Every adult wished every other adult – “Happy Diwali” except his/her
own spouse, of course.

b. In addition if all the men shook hands with each other once, how many handshakes
were there.
c. If each woman brought exactly M dishes, and the total number of dishes was a perfect
cube, what is the smallest M possible?
d. The children stood in the shape of a regular polygon. What was each internal angle of
the polygon and how many diagonals did it have?

3. Country Xanado is in the shape of a square. Travelling in a fast train at 60m/s it takes 4 hrs to
travel from one corner to the diagonally opposite corner. It has 4 states A, B, C, D. A is a square
at the center of Zanado. B is the shape of a uniform-width pathway around A. C is the shape of a
uniform-width pathway around B. Likewise D around C. All the four states have the same area.
a. Find the width of the pathway B.
b. Find the perimeter of the state C.
c. Find the area of the state D.
d. Each state can adopt a color from the colors of a rainbow as it’s state’s official color. No
two states can have the same color. How many color permutations are possible?
e. If states can have the same color how many permutations are possible?
f. If states having adjoining boundaries cannot have the same color, then how many
permutations are possible?

4. The quadratic function x2 + (k-2)x - (2k-3) is positive for all values of x
a. Express this as a constraint in terms of it’s discriminant. (This will be an equality or
inequality in terms of k)
b. Solve the equality or inequality in k, and find the values of k possible.

5. Modi, Aravind, and Sonia left to school at 10am (from their respective homes) and they all
reached school within an hour. When Modi arrived he saw the minute and hour hand of the
school clock made 90 degrees. When Sonia arrived she made a similar observation. When
Aravind arrived the hour and minute hand were pointing exactly away from each other. Modi
arrived before Aravind. And no two people arrived at the same time. Find all of their arrival
times at school precisely.
