ABSTRACT
The demand for a new innovative healthcare institution is still regarded as something
to be concentrated on by the Department of Health throughout the country. Yet, there
are still lots of unsolved problems and medical care issues that the world is meant to face.

Timely with todays’ issues is the creation of an “Pediatric Hospital: Integrating

Biophilic Innovation into Child Care” project located at Barangay Puerta Real, Sto.
Domingo, Ilocos Sur owned by Dr. Antoinio Lahoz with an area of approximately 78,864
sq.m and it is proposed by Dr. Rosita P. Rialubin. Md, a pediatrician in Ilocos Sur.

It is an effort to give the most appropriate medical care for children and young adults’
ages 0-19, which could serve as an epitome of healthcare spaces in the future. Not only
with the consideration for hospital planning and design that this study is concentrated but
also with its integration with the environment. Hospitals built in the past have orbited
more with the considerations of certain architectural requirements that designers have
neglected the other aspects that add up to patient comfort.

In the “Pediatric Hospital: Integrating Biophilic Innovation into Child Care”, the
environment is given its own role to play not just for patients and their families but also to
the medical team. It is set up with an appeal that’s far from the usual grim and dull
environment of a regular hospital and to provide patient’s the feeling of living a normal
life even if they’re inside the facility while they achieve healing. This approach is perfect
for youngsters and their fragile response to every new environment they are in. It is
enveloped with the principle of “Biophilia” which designers consider to be the best
innovation for a healthcare institution.
