I. Title of Material/Introduction

Self-directed Module in Mathematics 2 Quarter 2

Week 6. In this module you will learn how to illustrate
and write a related equation for multiplication as
equal jumps on the number line. Learning this lesson
will provide you a powerful tool to help you
understand multiplication of numbers.

II. Objectives

Illustrates and writes a related equation for

multiplication as equal jumps on the number line.

III. Vocabulary List

Equal jumps – refer to jumps or equal distance on the

number line.

Related equation – a statement that the value of two

mathematical expressions are equal.

IV. Pre Test

Connect the illustration in Column A to its equivalent

multiplication sentence in Column B.
Column A Column B
1 a. 5 x 7 = 35
b. 3 x 4 = 12
2. c. 5 x 2 = 10
3. d. 8 x 5 = 40
Page | 1
e. 4 x 9 = 36
4.

5.

V. Learning Activities

To illustrate multiplication as equal jumps in a

number line, determine the number of equal jumps
and the number of spaces per jump.

For example: 5 x 2 = 10
number of jumps x number of space per jump

Illustration as equal jumps on the number line:

How many equal jumps are there? 5

How many spaces are there per jump? 2
How many spaces are there in all? 10

Another example: 9 x 2 = 18
Illustrated as:

Page | 2
How many equal jumps are there? 9
How many spaces are there per jump? 2
How many spaces are there in all? 18

Other examples:

1.

How many equal jumps are there? 5

How many spaces are there per jump? 3
How many spaces are there in all? 15

Multiplication sentence: 5 x 3 =15

2.

How many equal jumps are there? 4

How many spaces are there per jump? 9
How many spaces are there in all? 36

Multiplication sentence: 4 x 9 =36

Practice Task 1

Connect the picture in Column A to its multiplication

sentence in Column B.

Page | 3
Column A Column B
1. a. 7 x 1 = 7
b. 7 x 2 = 14
2. c. 9 x 2= 18

3.

Practice Task 2

Write the multiplication sentence for the following

number line.

1.

2.

3.

Practice Task 3

Continue putting an arrow in the number line. Then

write its related equation.

below.

a. 5 x 3 = 15 b. 3 x 5 = 15 c. 1 x 15 = 15
2. Write the multiplication sentence for 6 jumps of 2.
a. 12 x 1=12 b. 2 x 6 = 12 c. 6 x 2 = 12
3. Which of the following number lines illustrate the
given multiplication sentence below.
4 x 3 = 12
a.

b.

c.

4. Write the multiplication sentence of the illustration

below.

a. 1 x 7 = 14 b. 7 x 1 = 7 3. 0 x 7= 0
5. Use an arrow to show the multiplication in the
number line. 7 x 5 = 35

VII. Assignment/Additional Activities
