STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK FOR FLEXIBLE TEACHING AND LEARNING

Introduction

The quest for quality education in the new normal has many challenges particularly in
the implementation of flexible teaching and learning. The key issue is how it impacts the student
learning and the quality of that learning experience, the learning outcomes and learner
engagement using appropriate learning methodologies. The University Strategic Framework for
Flexible Teaching and Learning aimed to outline the guiding principles and key elements for
effective learning approaches and resilience, including processes to identify the different
learning approaches, strategies to implement the learning methods, and mechanisms to assure
that strategies have been implemented.

Delivery Methods:
A. Synchronous Learning is a form of online learning that occurs when learners and
instructors are interacting in real-time, typically through delivery platforms, remote
labs and distance learning technologies.
This synchronous learning method is adopted by the university as
transitory for classroom set-up or face to face delivery of instruction. With online
learning software platforms for live webinars, video-conferencing, instant
messaging and virtual classroom, lessons discussions and interactions are
effectively provided for both faculty and students.

Synchronous Learning Software Platforms:

1. Zoom is the ideal web meeting software for users who want to simply and
effectively connect with faculty and students remotely. It also has support for
increased flexibility and encryption to guarantee secure communications.
2. Skype is a telecommunications application that specializes in providing video
chat and voice calls between computers, tablets, mobile devices, the Xbox
One console, and smart watches over the Internet. It also provides instant
messaging services.
3. Facebook Messenger is mobile messaging app used for instant messaging,
sharing photos, videos, audio recordings and for group chats. The app, which
is free to download, can be used to communicate with your friends on
Facebook and with your phone contacts.

B. Asynchronous Learning is a learning approach where students learn the same

material at different times and locations. The asynchronous learning environment
provides students with teaching materials and tools for registration, instruction,
and discussion. It involves the ability to maintain communication without having
to meet at the same place at the same time (example sending email).
The university believe that asynchronous learning delivery method is the
key feature of successful online learning program to be adopted using Learning
Management System (LMS) Software or any effective learning management
system (Open/Free Source) software or platforms.
The Learning Management Systems (LMS) aimed to manage the whole
learning process which includes:
a. Organizes eLearning content in one location.
b. Provides unlimited access to eLearning materials.
c. Easily tracks learner progress and performance.
d. Reduces Learning and Development costs and time.
e. Keep administration (dean/program head) up-to-date with the faculty
performance and (parent/ guardian) to student performance.
f. Quickly and conveniently expands eLearning courses through sharing of
learning materials (learning hub).
g. Integrates social learning experiences and collaboration.

Asynchronous Learning Software Platforms:

1. Edmodo is a free or open source application for global education network that
helps connect all learners with the people (teacher, parent, co-student,
researcher, etc.) and resources needed to reach their full potential.

2. Google Classroom is a free web service developed by Google for schools
that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments. The primary
purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files
between teachers and students.

Guidelines for Students under Online Learning Approach:

1. Student must have at least one of any of the technology (Desktop, Laptop,
Tablet, Smartphone, Phablets and Smart TV) and Internet connection (strong,
good, limited, poor) to be considered under this learning approach.
2. Student is required to have an active email account or create to those who have
not (preferably Gmail account) not only for sending and receiving emails, large
file documents and videos but also be used for the installation of different
software applications.
3. Student is required to have at least one social media account (preferably
Facebook and Messenger application with own profile photo and full name) for
initial student tracing by the teacher/instructor (Adding you to the group via
Facebook and Messenger).
4. Student is required to install Zoom and Skype Application for videoconferencing
or live discussion with the teacher/instructor for synchronous learning.
5. Student is also required to install Edmodo or Google Classroom Application
(whichever is the recommendation of the teacher/instructor) to use as LMS
software platforms for asynchronous learning.
6. Student is advised to make certain check regularly the announcements posted by
the teacher/instructor in the messenger group or in the Edmodo or Google
Classroom notification dashboard for any class concerns.
7. In case the student encountered uncontrollable situations like desktop or laptop
or smartphone damage or unavailability of internet connection for long period of
time, the student will be given the chance to submit his/her requirements via drop
box system in the respective local government unit/barangay (instructions will be
discussed by the teacher/faculty concern).
8. In case the student has poor internet connection during videoconferencing or live
discussions, send message immediately to the teacher/instructor concern via
messenger or sms-text regarding the situation for his/her to schedule for another
videoconferencing or live discussion.
9. Online course syllabi and lessons concerns will be uploaded by the teacher
through LMS (Edmodo or Google Classroom Application).
10. Exams, Quizzes, Assignments, Projects and Activities will also be conducted and
submitted using LMS (Edmodo or Google Classroom Application) by the teacher
concern.
11. Grading System is included in the course syllabi for discussion of the teacher/
faculty concern.
12. Observe Netiquette for posting in messenger or group discussions (please check
the link for netiquettes in the uploaded online course syllabi).
