Know diff btw endocrine n exocrine

List hormones. Know what they do and where they come from
Ie TSH. Come from anterior pituitary. Releases TSH to thyroid
Know endocrine hormones
Test honorlock. Honorlock testcheck

1/11/21 Chapter 17

Endocrine system like bank drive through. Slow, but sends signal for instructions.

During birth, Oxytocin hormone sent from endocrine to uterus to make the uterus contract.
After birth, prolactin hormone sent from endocrine system to make lactate in mammary glands.
In womb, testosterone determines male sex characteristics.
Regulation of hormones done via

4 meth of communitcation: gap junct, neurotrans, paracrines, hormones

Pancreas is both endocrine and exocrine function.

Encrocrine func: insulin released for intracellular effects.
Exocrine function helps breakdown fat, protein, and sugars via enzymes.

4 Fs of hypothamalmus:
fighting, flight??, feeding, fucking

Thryoids job is to secrete hormones. Thyroid hormone

Parathryoids job is to secrete parathyroid hormone

Ovaries release progest/estro

Hypothalamus connected to pituitary gland via infundibulum

Know all 9 pituitary hormones.

Hypothalamus mainly has releasing/inhibiting hormones. So anything with R
(releasing) or I (inhibiting) helps indicate this.

Hormones: TRH (PRL, TSH), GnRH (LH, FSH), CRH (ACTH), GHRH (GH
IGF)

Anterior pituitary hormones:

KNOW what signals the hormone, function of hormone, target organ

TRH releases PRL: stim lactate

TRH releases TSH: stim thyroid hormones, T3/T4
GnRH releases LH/FHS: testes/sperm. Estrogen, egg
CRH releases ACTH: stim adrenal cortex to make cortisol
GHRH releases GHIGF: stim insulin like growth factors that works on the muscle, fat,
and bone cells.

Posterior pituitary hormones:

ADH reduces urine volume and prevents dehydration. AKA vasopressin due to
vasoconstriction
OT stimulates flow of milk during lactation, sexual satisfaction, labor contractions,
emotional bonding

Hypothyroidism makes a person lose their hair, constipated, cold all the time, goiter,
fatigue, low energy, weight gain. LOW T4 levels, HIGH TSH levels

Hyperthyroidism opp of hypothyroid symptoms. would have HIGH T4 levels, LOW TSH
levels

Thyroid regulates metabolism

Hypothalamus regulates levels of T4, which has neg feedback for pituitary and
hypothalamus
