“Red Balloon” Baked Cotton Balls

Ingredients:
- Flour
- Water
- Red Food Coloring
- Cotton Balls
- Cookie Sheet

Instructions:
1. Mix one cup flour and one cup water
2. Add red food coloring
3. Dip the cotton balls in the mixture.
4. Bake them at 300° for about 40 minutes on a
cookie sheet

The flour mixture forms a hard, crunchy shell around the

soft cotton ball. Have a great time “popping” your red
balloons with toy hammers or by simply stomping on
them.

Creating the balloons is a great sensory play experience,

and smashing them provides both fine and gross motor
practice and eye-hand coordination depending on the
method.  There is also some problem solving involved as
the kiddos figure out how to break open the balloons
using different tools.  As with any new experience, this is
also a fabulous language boosting activity.
