The Capstone strand I have chosen is project capstone

Proposed title for my Project is how to condense/create an umpire manual that is easy and
simple to read for your and new umpires.

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that
you cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

How to create a manual that is easy to read for young and upcoming umpires?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect
to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I have worked as an umpire for about 7 years and at the beginning of each season we get a
manual and rule book. Each are extremely long and difficult to read for beginners. My goal is
to create a much simpler and straight to the point book/manual for the new and young
umpires. I enjoy helping kids learn the ins and outs of umpiring. I also help out the umpires
who teach the younger umpires so I am kind of a mentor as such.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this

area of inquiry?

I have been an umpire for many years and really enjoy it. I am also becoming a mentor to help
out the youngest umpires in their journey to becoming an umpire. It will help me toward
teaching, as I am teaching kids learning how to be umpires.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

I am planning on becoming a teacher and this certainly will help as I am taking something and
making it into my own words for others to understand better. It will also benefit me because I
will help teach the kids later in the year.

Communication: I am communicating my knowledge of umpiring and knowledge from the

manuals into a more condensed and easy to read manual for the beginning umpires.
Critical Thinking: I have to think critically to ensure the words are translated correctly to ensure
full understanding of the points I am trying to convey.
Social Responsibility: I am solving a problem because many students/younger umpires
including myself do not read the book/manual because it is somewhat confusing and daunting
as it has so many different situations.

Website: this will be my medium where I will publish my findings as well as the manual at the
end of the project.

My capstone is a project based and it will entail the condensing of the umpire manual and rule
book into more readable language for the younger umpires to read and understand.

skills you will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to
access/learn all of the resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail

I will need a computer to complete the writing of the condensed manual therefore I can publish
it to my website. I have to have prior knowledge of how to be an umpire to know what is
necessary to include in the manual so the greatest amount of information is given to
understand the task.

you need to help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you?
What is your plan to access the mentorship/community connections necessary for this
project?

I have a mentor who has helped me become a better umpire throughout the years. He has
helped me to better understand the game of baseball. I will take what I have learned and
implement it into my research and condensed information.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee
that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?

No real limitations other then time and maybe ensuring I enclosed enough information in a
simple enough manner to fully understand.
