CHAPTER 1

INSTRUMENTS

1. Theodolite
Theodolite is tool for used to determine the height of the land with horizontal and
vertical angles. These angles play a role in determining the horizontal distance and the upright
distance between two points in field.

Fig 1.1 Theodolite

2. Tripod
Tripod used as a platform for supporting the weight and maintaining the stability of
some other object. A tripod provides stability against downward forces and horizontal forces and
movements about horizontal axes. In practice this is used to support the Theodolite so that it can
be used

Fig. 1.2 Tripod

3. Stakes
Stakes are used to give a sign on the measurement and to know the specified opoint
points. in this case stakes are made of iron and underneath put a white paper to be seen when
taking pictures.

Fig. 1.3 Stakes

4. Measure takes ( Roll Meter )
Maeasure takes is useful for measuring distance from a point to another to make a
right angle, and can also be used to make a circle. At the end of the tape is equipped with a hook
and given a magnet to make it easier when making measurements, and the tape does not come
off when measuring. This meter is often used by builders or road width gauges. Accuracy of
measurement with rollmeter up to 0.5 mm.

5. Hands tools ( Hammer )
Hammer is used of a weighted "head" fixed to a long handle that is swung to deliver an
impact to a small area of an object. This can be, for example, to drive nails into wood, to shape
metal (as with a forge), or to crush rock. In this practice the hammer is used to make stakes enter
the ground to help give a mark on the measurement of each point.

Fig 1.5 Hammer

6. Umbrella
Umbrella are one of the tools used in this practice. The umbrella is used to protect the
Theodolite tool from the sun's heat and also so that the surveyor can measure it well.

Fig 1.6 Umbrella

7. White Paper
Paper is used when placing stakes at each point so that stakes remain visible or easily
visible when taking pictures.
Fig 1.7 White paper
8. Pens and Paper

pencil and paper is used to write data on measurement results.

CHAPTER II

PROCEDURE

1. Deflection Angle Method

a. Prepare tools such as Theodolite, stakes, tripods, roll meters, hands tools, umbrella white
paper.
b. Determine the IP and F points
c. Put the stakes at points F and

d. Put the Theodolite on a tripod at the IP point

e. Set the tool so it is ready to use (make sure the bubbles are in the middle, the lens is clean so
that it is easy to shoot, the tripod is standing well and the theodolite will not fall).

f. Measure the distance between IP to F and IP to EC using a roll meter

g. Determine the BC point using the distance specified in the table then put the stake

h. Start the measurement using Theodolite from IP point to BC point with Zet 0 then reverse
i. Rotate horizontally the theodolite 180+ I in clockwise direction based on the thetermind value
of I and the distance
j. Record the measurement results

k. Do the same with the next measurement, IP to EC

l. Measure distance measurements from point F to EC using a roll meter. If the distance is in
accordance with that specified in the table, continue the next measurement.
m. Measuring the distance using a roll meter with the size specified in the table from point BC
to get Point 1 (P1) and then shoot using the Theodolite.

n. When giving stakes at each point, do not forget to put the paper under the peg to make it
visible when taking pictures / documentation

o. Do the same thing to determine the other point to the last point.
p. measurements from point F to G using a roll meter to find out whether the distance is correct
or not.
q. Record the measurement results and don't forget to take pictures as documentation.

r. After the measurement is complete, trim the tool as before.

LEARNING PROCESS

1. Experience

My experience in this practice is:

a. Using a tool such as Theodolite, put a peg and measure the distance using a roll meter
b. I know how to determine points and also distance in this case for
measurement (Deflection angle method)
c. Calculate the data from measurement results.
d. How to work well together in a team.

2. FEELING
I am very excited and happy to follow this practice because I can get new
knowledge and also get new experiences that I have not had before. Besides that I am
also happy with our teacher who always guides us patiently and always explains well if
we have questions.

3. SUGESTION

Special thanks to 老師 Chen-Hoang Lo who always teaches me and friends very well
and always tries to make us understand and gain knowledge, who is also always patient
if we have questions. Always teaching us Chinese language so we can find out more
about the terms especially in civil engineering. .
