MOB BUOYS
Both MOB Signal lifebuoys are to be
checked for condition / damages,
vessel’s name and port of registry
must be clearly marked.
The grab line is to be checked for

proper fixing at 4 points and for
condition.
Check that the Man Overboard
Markers are secured by lanyards to
quick release lifebuoys on bridge
wings.
The expiry date(s) of the smoke

signals are to be checked to be
within the expiry date. If getting close
to the due date new signals are to be
ordered in due course.
LIFEBUOYS
All lifebuoys are to be properly

checked for their condition, vessel’s
name and port of registry are to be
clearly marked. Grab lines are to be
checked for their proper fixing on the
lifebuoy.
Self activating lights are to be
checked for proper operation (where
possible).
On board of tankers it is to ensure

that attached lights in gas hazardous
areas are of intrinsically safe type.
Check filling holes are plugged/
sealed and secure and no ingress of
water.

condition and adhesion. Replace if
necessary.
Replace suits in the bag with zippers
fully opened.

LIFEJACKETS
Check the condition and stowage of
lifejackets including forward liferaft
ones.
Ensure that whistles are secured to

lifejackets by a lanyard, the lights are
in good condition and that both
work correctly. Battery expiry date to
be checked
Check that lifejackets are correctly
marked with the ship’s name
Check that the retro-reflective tape is
in good condition
Check that stowage position is
clearly marked.
Check that rope allowing connection

of survivors in the water is attached
to lifejacket and is in good condition.
Inspect clip on the belt of lifejackets

INFLATABLE LIFEJACKETS
Check the lifejacket cover, belt and
buckle for signs of damage
The correct stowage location is to be
checked, further the condition of the
jackets.
Ensure that the lifejacket charge is
filled and the lifejacket is therefore
ready to be used.
Check that lifejackets are correctly
marked and stowed.
Check the attached light
Check availability / stowage of
spares – minimum recommended
quantity is 10%
(Not less than 1 piece) of spare
cartridges and, where applicable,
automatic firing capsules.

Equipment / Installation: FIRE / FOAM HYDRANTS, HOSES, NOZZLES AND ISOLATION VALVES
Check that all boxes and racks contain
the correct equipment, all washers are in
place and nozzles work.
Each box should contain: Fire Hose,
Jet / Spray Nozzle and Coupling

operation, if applicable
Inspect / Oil if necessary all the hinges
and catches of hose box doors.
Test all hydrants for ease of operation.

FIRE DOORS
Internal Fire Doors are to be

checked for proper closing at all
times. Those held open magnetically
are to be tested for proper function.
This test goes along with the weekly
test of the General Alarm.
It is further to ensure that fire doors

are never fixed in the open position
(except for magnetically operated
doors), such as by a rope, hook or
stopper.
Automatic door closing devices are

to be checked for proper function, in
case found that the door is not
closing fully the spring of the closing
device is to be adjusted.
WEATHERTIGHT DOORS
All weathertight doors leading into

accommodation, forecastle and
stores are to be checked in way of
sealing rubber and proper function of
locking devices, such as dog clamps
etc

service conditions.
Fire hoses must be connected when

testing this pump – it is generally
accepted and tested one on the
bridge and one on the foc’lse.
The following information is to be

entered in the PMS after completing
the test:

b. Draft F & A
c. Trim
d. List – if any
e. Recorded pressures at the
hydrants.

GENERAL ALARM SYSTEM
The activation of the General Alarm

is to be tested in line with the safety
drills carried out on a weekly basis.

Under this category all other alarms
shall be listed, such as:
Hospital Alarm
Reefer Chamber Alarms
Manual Fire Call Points (in rotation,
all to be tested within 3 months).

Equipment / Installation: FIXED FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM

Carry out function test to confirm
system is fully operational
Test all lamps and buzzers on the
control panel
Test fire sensors in rotation for

correct operation as per
Manufacturer’s Instructions. This is
to be arranged in such a way so that
all sensors are tested at least once
within a 3-month period.
Any other test/maintenance to be

Instructions.

circumference 63 mm) for damage or
contamination by oil or paint.
Replace any lines immediately, when
damage is evident or suspected.
Lightly coat all metal parts of

harnesses with “Vaseline” or similar
lubricant to prevent corrosion.
Note: In addition to above described

routine, all Safety Harnesses and
Belts should be always checked
before being used.
