Would you rather: Learn all the known languages in the world or Learn to play all the

musical instruments in the world?".

Good day everyone. I am Hannah Colango. I would like to share my

point regarding to the question. Would you rather: Learn all the known
languages in the world or Learn to play all the musical instruments
in the world?".
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would rather be able to learn all the musical
instruments in the world.
1. Human beings are social creatures that’s why fluency in
communicating is an important life skill but the common thing that
comes up in our mind that the key to communicate effectively is to
master languages. That’s not always the case. In approximately 7,000
spoken languages in the world today, there are only 10 percent of those
are spoken by more than 100,000 people, there's clearly a
communication gap between cultures throughout the world.
But there's one language that everybody understands no matter what
tongue they speak: music. It’s a huge part of our lives and conducive to
memory. But do we realize just how much of an influence it really has
on us and our cultural identity? While we may not understand the lyrics
of foreign songs, we all share the same emotions when we hear similar
chords, rhythm and melodies.
Let me present some facts why I chose to learn musical instruments than
languages.
First, Peter Alfandary a bilingual who speaks French/English and Italian
travels to New York City which made him realize how different we all
communicate . WE HAVE THIS a cross cultural dilemma, the belief that
because English is spoken so much, it’s so easy to communicate that we
really do understand each other therefore he highlights that we often
interpret subjectively and stereotype. Therefore, there is still a
communication barrier happening even though we learn the native
language.
Moreover, "The
world’s most famous and popular
language is music." – Psy Musicia
Some of the first communication we give and receive in life is through music.
Mothers play music for and sing to their children in the womb. Most parents sing to
their child from an early age for a reason, as singing is such an important part
of learning language.

Lastly, "Music is therapy. Music moves people. It connects people in

ways that no other medium can. It pulls heart strings. It acts as
medicine." – quoted by Macklemore
In conclusion, I rather want learn to play all the musical instruments in
the world to bind people across all cultures. Because music does have
the power to evoke deep primal feelings at the core of the shared human
experience. It not only crosses cultures, it also reaches deep into our
evolutionary past. And in this sense, just like what American poet Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow once said is that music truly is a universal
language of all mankind because learning to play musical instruments
means understanding cultures globally.
