Procedures of Compressive Strength of Concrete Cubes

Cube Test
i. 150mm x 150mm x 150mm standard cube mold used for the concrete mix.
ii. The cube mould was assemble correctly and all nuts are tightened.
iii. Light coat of proprietary mold oil was applied on the internal faces of the mould.
iv. 50mm thick sampled of concrete was filled at the layer.
v. The layer of concrete was compacted by tamping the whole surface area with the
tamping rod for 35 times.
vi. Steps iv and v was repeated until all the mold filled.
vii. The cube surface was marked with an identification number (1,2,3,4,5 and 6) with
match stick.
viii. The cubes were covered with cloth or polythene sheeting and kept them in a place
that free vibration for about 24 hours to allow initial set.
ix. After the concrete was sufficiently hardened, the cube was placed in a clean water
bath or thermostatically controlled curing tank.
Testing for Cube Test
i. After 7 days and 35 days, the test specimen were removed from the curing tank.
ii. Each specimen were weighted and measured carefully.
iii. Each specimen was placed in the compression machine to undergo compressive
strength test.
iv. The total maximum load was recorded as indicated by the testing machine.
