ABSTRACT
The research study sought to find out the weakness and strength as well as opportunities for
improvement and skills development of non-print materials as a determinant of library and
information science academic staff performance. The objective of the study is to examine the
appraisal of non-print materials as a determinant of library and information science
academic staff performance. The target population of this study include the students of both
Federal Polytechnic Ilaro and Mashood Abiola Polytechnic. The sample size of the study was
determined using Tharo Yamani’s statistical formula which is 130. The study employed both
secondary and primary data to source for the relevant information on the study. The
collected data was analyzed and presented using simple percentage distribution table.
Conclusively, it was revealed that the academic staff of the polytechnics mostly makes use of
the non-print materials/resources in the library. Hence, this is because the academic staff
finds it easier to locate. Also the library has standard and well organized
collections/resources thus, increasing the rate at which the academic staff frequently makes
use of the library. It was therefore recommended that the library should provide adequate
non print materials/resources and services that would enhance reading interest of the
academic staff, the library must ensure that they make the electronic resources available to
the academic staff so as to aid their research work.
