Lightning Protection calculation

Overall Height of Tower with peak (h) = 19 M

Equipment Bus Height (h1) = 7.5 M

Effective Protective Height (ha) = h - h1 = 11.5 M

As per clause 8.2.1 of IS 2309-1989 (relevant figure:3C) for the group of peak towers
within the switchyard, angle for the protective zone is considered as 45 º
for the zone outside the peripheral peak towers and 60º inside for the zone in between
the peak twers at the equipment bus height.

Rdius of the protective zone at Equipment bus height

for thr zone outside the peripheral towers = tan 45 x 11.5
= 11.5 M

Rdius of the protective zone at Equipment bus height

for thr zone in between the peak towers = tan 60 x 11.5
= 19.918 M

With these radii,lightning protection zones are plotted on the drawing.
