PERSUASIVE SPEECH PREPARATION: WRITING AN INTRODUCTION

Outline your Introduction with the listed elements. Refer to the Persuasive Speech scoresheet (on
GOALS), for further details and breakdown of marks.

1) Hook: How will you start your speech and attract the audience’s attention?
(famous quote/question/statement/fact/hadith/aqli naqli?)
I will quote an expression from a human right idol, Nelson Mandela once said “Education is
the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
(quote source: provide URL/website/book/printed reference)
https://thriveglobal.com/stories/education-is-the-most-powerful-weapon-you-can-use-to-
change-the-world/

2) Context: Provide some questions to prompt the audience/start with ‘common ground’ to
gauge audience’s attention.
Does the existing education system, separated by sex education really work to form the next
generation that can relate well to everyone and not discriminate against one gender?

3) Give a definition of your topic:

Gender-separated schools, also known as single-gender education and gender-isolated
education, is the practice of conducting education with male and female students attending
separate classes, perhaps in separate buildings or schools.
(quote source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-
sex_education#Impact_on_female_citizens'_civil_rights)

4) Provide some general examples of the problem/issue: give some background information,
statistics, interesting facts & figures, debatable matters in relation to the issue etc.
The journal Science published a study deeply critical of gender-segregated schooling, arguing
that the movement towards single-sex education "is deeply misguided, and often justified by
weak, cherry-picked, or misconstrued scientific claims rather than by valid scientific
evidence". The study goes on to conclude that "there is no well-designed research showing
that single-sex (SS) education improves students' academic performance, but there is
evidence that sex segregation increases gender stereotyping and legitimizes institutional
sexism."

5) Thesis statement/persuasive claim:

Gender-separated schools should be abolished as it will increase the influence of sexism

among community
6) Overview of Main Points:
I will talk about the contents that lead to the understanding of sexism caused by these
gender-sepated schools with my first content stating that we live in a community where
gender are not kept separate from one another and the atmosphere in the classroom that is
less diversity.

Write out the draft of your introduction below:

From time immemorial we have been told the importance of early and secondary education to
children, as a humanitarian figure Nelson Mandela said "Education is the most powerful weapon you
can use to change the world". Yes, it is true that the expression he said but does the existing
education system, separated by gender education really work to form the next generation that can
communicate well to everyone and not discriminate against other gender? First of all, let's find out
what gender-separated schools are. Gender-separated schools, also known as single-gender
education and gender-isolated education, is the practice of conducting education with male and
female students attending separate classes, perhaps in separate buildings or schools. This is followed
by the journal Science published a study deeply critical of gender-segregated schooling, arguing that
the movement towards single-sex education "is deeply misguided, and often justified by weak,
cherry-picked, or misconstrued scientific claims rather than by valid scientific evidence ". Thus,
gender-separated schools should be abolished as it will increase the influence of sexism among the
community. And in my speech this will explain about how gender-separated schools lead to the
influence of sexism with we live in a community where gender are not kept separate from one
another and the atmosphere in the classroom that is less diversity.
