13 SYNOPSIS: This course is designed to develop the skills needed to become a proficient language user in the legal profession. With specific focus
on speaking and writing strategies in dealing with current and legal issues, most of the class activities will be carried out through group
discussions and pair work. This course covers 80% of B2 and 20% of B1 CEFR levels of proficiency (Independent User).
Communication and persuasive speaking skills will be sharpened through public speaking (pair and individual) presentations, and
group role play assessments, which will focus on (simulated) courtroom drama interactions. Oral presentation skills are also honed
through group discussions of current issues, pair work in formulating arguments and persuasions, and responding to audience
feedback (through question and answer sessions, during presentations) which facilitate two-way communication, in developing critical
thinking skills. Continuous assessments are geared towards enhancing students’ language skills, specifically speaking and writing.
Blended modes of learning via online tools, and the integration of naqli and aqli elements within all the skills, are embedded throughout
the tasks and assessments of the course.
