Manganum.
Triturations of the acetate or carbonate are used. (The symptoms of both are
here combined.).
General Action :- º As "blood" remedy to be compared with Ferrum in
part. º Its power to produce paralysis of the lower half of the body seeks
undoubted ; its action on the skin is also very pronounced and interesting.
Allies :- º Arsen., Ferr.
Generalities :- º Stitches are mostly dull ; pinching S. in several parts, agg.
inside of thighs ; drawing, jerking tearing, in various parts. º Burrowing in
bones nightly. º Pain on touch ; as if suppurating in all parts on touch, with
heat of chest and cheeks. º Drawing tensive pains in several parts, as from a
tight band. º Tension in various parts or cramplike drawing and tearing. º
Swollen feeling in head, hands and feet at 4 P.M., after walking in open air. º
Discomfort in whole body, agg. stomach, with fretfulness. º Inclination to
stretch all day. º Uneasiness of mind and body as if something troubled him.
º Bubbling in various muscles, with waving sensation.
º º Weakness ; in forenoon ; at 4 P.M. ; at 8 P.M., he could hardly keep
awake. º Paraplegia. º Paralysis, first on lower limbs (Ars.) ; agg. lower
limbs, so that he staggers and inclines to run forward if he tries to walk,
slight weakness of arms, weakness of voice, vacancy of countenance from
paralysis of facial muscles, and from the same cause saliva is apt to escape
from mouth, agg. speaking.
Clinical :- º Preparations of this drug have been found very useful in
general anæmia, almost taking the place of Iron, especially when there is
tendency to early but scanty menstruations or when there is tendency to
menstrual discharge between the periods. º Chronic rheumatism
wandering from place to place. º Periostitis.
º Fulness, amel. food. º Drawing sticking, extending into left ear, in region
of tympanum, on laughing. º Pain ; in epigastric region when eating, amel.
pressure of hand ; beneath pit when eating, agg. walking ; in pit, agg. touch,
with pressure on chest ; as from a stone in right side. º Constriction in
morning after rising. º Drawing in epigastric region and nausea as if pit of
stomach were internally dilated. º Distress, agg. dinner, she thought she
would feel better if she could eructate, with attacks of nausea. º Burning,
extending into chest ; in pit, extending up under sternum to palate, with
soreness and uneasiness ; as after long hunger, rising through pharynx into
head, generally causing jerking or tensive sticking in temples or forehead ;
qualmish, rising into mouth in morning, with sourish-bitter dryness of
mouth. º Acid burning like heartburn, rising almost to mouth in evening ;
rising to mouth in morning on rising, with nausea.
Abdomen :- º Large. º Frequent tympanitic distention, amel. emission of
flatus. º Cutting in evening. º Griping in A. and sides ; amel. pressure and
loose, tenacious stool, with shaking chill ; G. in morning, then usual stool,
with cutting in rectum ; at 4.30 A.M., with movings then soft stool ; with
movings, as before stool ; then pale, yellow, sandy stool. º Pain ; agg. cold
food ; as if ulcerated, in evening, with pressure in hypochondria ; drawing,
when eating ; flatulent, in morning in bed, not amel. emission of odorless
flatus. º Shaking, as if intestines were loose when walking. º Discomfort,
extending into head, as from smoking tobacco.
º Rawness in upper, extending into sternum. º Sticking from left lowest ribs
to pit of stomach on rising and stretching body. º Bruised pain beneath last
ribs. º Sore pain beneath last ribs, agg. touch and motion. º Constriction
rising from middle into chest (pharynx) with nausea and warmth. º Painful
contraction, now in right, nor in left side, so that she sat bent over. º
Umbilical region, cutting, on deep breathing ; drawing pain in morning ;
tensive pain about and above umbilicus, then flatulent pain and emission of
flatus ; warmth, gradually extending over whole abdomen. º Hypogastrium,
sticking, then soft stools ; S. in right groin ; tensive pain as if a sinew were
swollen, with pain on touch ; warmth, as from a hot drink moving back and
forth, at last rising to stomach ; burning soreness in bend of right thigh.
Rectum and Stool :- º Rumbling in. º Tearing in R. after dinner. º
Constriction of anus when sitting. º Two soft stools in evening. º Stool dry,
difficult, infrequent. º Constipation ; for twenty-four hours, then yellow,
sandy stool, with tenesmus and constriction in anus. º S. omitted.
Urinary Organs :- º Cutting in region of bladder in evening when sitting,
agg. standing and walking, but he urinated without trouble. º Sticking into
urethra when sitting if he quietly emits flatus ; S. in meatus urinarius when
not urinating. º Cutting in middle of urethra when not urinating. º Urging ;
after eating an apple ; frequent urging ; during the day ; with profuse
discharge ; with scanty discharge. º Frequent micturition of golden-yellow
urine. º Urine turbid and deposits an earthy sediment ; U. deposits a violet
earthy sediment.
Sexual Organs :- º º At times burning dragging from vesiculæ seminales to
Chest :- º Sticking in upper part of sternum ; in left clavicle and axilla ; now
in right, now in left side in morning ; in upper, on expiration ; beneath left
axilla on motion of trunk ; on right lowest ribs on stooping ; inward in right
side near sternum ; drawing extending upward and downward in left ;
drawing upward, at times on expiration ; constrictive, in forenoon on deep
