Manganum.
Triturations of the acetate or carbonate are used. (The symptoms of both are
here combined.).
General Action :- º As "blood" remedy to be compared with Ferrum in
part. º Its power to produce paralysis of the lower half of the body seeks
undoubted ; its action on the skin is also very pronounced and interesting.
Allies :- º Arsen., Ferr.
Generalities :- º Stitches are mostly dull ; pinching S. in several parts, agg.
inside of thighs ; drawing, jerking tearing, in various parts. º Burrowing in
bones nightly. º Pain on touch ; as if suppurating in all parts on touch, with
heat of chest and cheeks. º Drawing tensive pains in several parts, as from a
tight band. º Tension in various parts or cramplike drawing and tearing. º
Swollen feeling in head, hands and feet at 4 P.M., after walking in open air. º
Discomfort in whole body, agg. stomach, with fretfulness. º Inclination to
stretch all day. º Uneasiness of mind and body as if something troubled him.
º Bubbling in various muscles, with waving sensation.
º º Weakness ; in forenoon ; at 4 P.M. ; at 8 P.M., he could hardly keep
awake. º Paraplegia. º Paralysis, first on lower limbs (Ars.) ; agg. lower
limbs, so that he staggers and inclines to run forward if he tries to walk,
slight weakness of arms, weakness of voice, vacancy of countenance from
paralysis of facial muscles, and from the same cause saliva is apt to escape
from mouth, agg. speaking.
Clinical :- º Preparations of this drug have been found very useful in
general anæmia, almost taking the place of Iron, especially when there is
tendency to early but scanty menstruations or when there is tendency to
menstrual discharge between the periods. º Chronic rheumatism
wandering from place to place. º Periostitis.

Mind :- º º Weeping mood. º Ill humor ; at every trifle in morning, with


wrinkled forehead, even the speaking of others excited him ; at 4.30 P.M.,
and sad ; afternoon, contemplative, dull, with general discomfort ; about
everything she thinks of ; so that he was not pleased with the most joyous
music, but was almost cheered by the saddest music ; and discontented with
himself, solicitous about the future, he talked little, thought he was weak in
mind and made mistakes in speaking in every sentence. º Embittered,

implacable mood. º Anxiety, with short breath and profuse sweat. º


Uneasiness as if he apprehended something sad. º Distraction. º Memory
weak.
Head :- º Shattering in brain on shaking head ; in brain on motion, with pain
in head and upper abdomen. º Aching in house ; amel. open air ; from above
downward over whole brain late in evening and on waking in night ;
drawing tensive, here and there. º Throbbing as if brain would suppurate at
2.30 P.M., amel. open air, returning in the house. º Confusion when sitting,
with gloominess of it and general weakness. º Heaviness morning and
evening, with sensitiveness of scalp ; in forenoon, so that he could hardly
hold it up, with fretfulness ; at 4 P.M., and feeling larger than usual ; at 3
P.M., amel. open air, returning in the house, with dullness, pain and internal
heat in it. º Rush, of blood when sitting, standing, walking and lying, with
internal heat in face without redness. º Vertigo when sitting and standing,
obliged to steady himself to prevent falling forward.
Forehead :- º º Contractive sticking here and there in forepart of head, agg.
temples, agg. open air ; drawing S. in sinciput on going in top open air, agg.
in the house, with general shaking chilliness ; drawing S. in F. extending
into ear, ending at tympanum as a sticking outward, agg. forenoon on
walking rapidly, amel. standing ward, agg. forenoon on walking rapidly,
amel. standing still ; intermittent S. in left side. º Shattering like a sticking
above right eye on rapid walking, even in the sticking above right eye on
rapid walking, even in the sticking above right eye on rapid walking, even in
the house. º Tearing from left eminence to temple when house. º Tearing
from left eminence to temple when talking ; T. in left bone, agg. moving
frontal muscles ; drawing T. from above right eye. º Boring inward between
left brow and root of nose. º Pain in upper part of bone ; stupefying P.
becoming internal sticking and boring.
Temples :- º Sticking in left bone. º Tearing in left on walking in open air. º
Digging extending to eyes and forehead, amel. stooping, returning on sitting
upright and bending backward. º Sharp pain above left on getting up and
walking, amel. sitting down again. º Drawing pain in bones.
Sides :- º Sticking externally beneath left parietal bone, extending to all
sides of skull ; in left parietal bone extending forward, on stooping. º
Tearing in right and agg. deep in right ear, on rising from stooping ;
drawing, in left ; sticking, deep internally from posterior and lower part of
left parietal bone to in front of vertex, when standing at 8 A.M. and at the
same hour next day. º Pain in one. º Itching spot anteriorly on right parietal
bone on stooping, amel. rising, returning on stooping and scratching, with
burning.
Occiput :- º Sticking externally on right bone extending to fifth cervical
vertebra, in morning in bed, agg. turning neck. º Tearing externally in
afternoon, agg. touch, with tearing jerking, at other times pain in the spot. º
Pain ; amel. application of hand, with emptiness, taking away his senses ;
throbbing, like suppuration, in right at 1.30 P.M. ; drawing, and in orbits and
forehead, agg. stooping, amel. pressure ; burning, and in vertex. º Pressure

forward over vertex into forehead, where it seems as if everything would


press out, from morning till 5 P.M., agg. 1 P.M. º Dullness and heaviness,
then in forehead.
Eyes :- º Pain if he looks intently at near objects, agg. a light held near
them ; when reading by lamp-light, as from reading too much, with
overpowering sleepiness. º Crawling jerking here and there in right, causing
agreeable tickling. º Dryness in evening ; D. and heat. º Pupils dilated ; agg.
evening ; right more than left ; and light blinds him and causes pain in eyes,
when the light is held before the eyes pupils gradually contract, but suddenly
dilate on removing it ; contracted. º Sharp pressure on ball on moving eye
inward and upward. º Lids swollen ; jerking sticking in upper lids ; pain on
slightest motion and dryness on looking at a bright light, with feeling as on
waking ; throbbing in right upper. º Biting pain in external canthus. º
Sticking inward in right superciliary ridge. º Vision dim for distant objects ;
short ; vanishes at 4.30 P.M. if she looks long at an object ; of sparks like
rays in evening on closing eyes, and it seems black as soon as he looks at the
light.
Ears :- º Drawing cramp in muscles of left mastoid process, so that he must
hold head to right side. º Sticking on speaking ; scraping S. in region of
tympanum. º Tearing in mastoid process behind right ; jerking, in right in
morning ; jerking, in right concha in evening on lying down, amel. in bed. º
Jerking-sticking pinching in left outer, amel. rubbing. º Digging in bones at
night. º Cramplike pain behind left on going into open air, amel. touch. º
Intermittent sharp pain in right on going into open air. º Pain in left ; in
external on touch ; as from suppuration in right concha in evening. º
Crawling tickling in region of tympanum, not amel. boring in with finger. º
Itching in left. º Coldness as from a draught in right. º Deafness as if ears
were stopped. º Sounds like the bell of a clock in morning. º Sounds in right
like the croaking of frogs, when walking. º Roaring after stooping, with
diminished hearing for a moment as if ears were closed. º Fluttering as of a
large bird before left, with warmth extending into ear.
Clinical :- º Earache, the ears feel stopped, and on blowing nose
cracking, which temporarily relieves deafness, the troubles always agg.
change of weather, associated with naso-pharyngeal catarrh.

Nose :- º Tearing in left nostril, with crawling, as from sudden irritation to


sneeze. º Stoppage ; alternating with fluent coryza ; with secretion of thick
mucus. º Coryza ; of left nostril at 1.30 P.M., with inability to inhale air
through it and loss of smell. º Stopped coryza ; in evening with red, sore,
painful nose and upper lip. º Discharge of bland watery mucus, with
frequent sneezing.
Clinical :- º Dry catarrh, with obstruction of nostrils, agg. cold, wet
weather. º Chronic nasal catarrh, nose very much stuffed and sore to
touch.

Face :- º Pale, suffering, sunken, as after excesses. º Intermittent digging in


a spot on zygoma at night in bed. º Pain to zygoma as if a boil would break
out. º Jaw, sticking in angle of lower, extending to parotid gland ; itching S.

from right side of lower to above temple, on laughing ; cramplike sensation


after eating ; smarting and sore pain in lower ; pain as from a blow in left
upper.
Lips :- º Pimple in right corner, with tensive and corrosive sticking on touch
and on moving mouth ; red, on lower near right corner of mouth, with
tensive pain. º Clear vesicles on right side of lower, and right side of upper
lip swollen and covered with pimples, with tensive pain on pressure ; upper
lip full of clear itching V., after these dry new ones appear, the itching agg.
evening. º Ulcerative pain on corners. º Dryness, and of palate ; D., with
shrivelled epidermis, without thirst.
Mouth :- º
Teeth :- º Sticking now in one upper, now in another, on biting teeth
together ; S. into arm, causing there paralyzed pain. º Tearing in several
lower ; drawing T. in morning in bed. º Aching, agg. forenoon and evening
from 10 till 12, amel. sucking with tongue, which at first caused acute
jerking ; A. extending suddenly into ear ; sudden, in two hollow molars,
extending into arm, zygoma, neck or ear, amel. biting on something elastic
or laying head upon table, agg. sitting upright, with prostration so that he
must lie down, internal restlessness and oppression ; frequent, in root of a
right lower as if it would be pushed out ; as if ulcerated, on touch ;
smarting ; in an upper and lower molar, agg. cold drink ; drawing ; in right
molars, often suddenly disappearing, then drawing pain in neighboring parts.
º Pimples painful to touch on right side of tongue ; posteriorly on left side,
and painful on swallowing. º Burning blisters on left side of tongue,
returning next day. º Soreness of palate posteriorly at 8 A.M., when not
swallowing, amel. eating bread, with sensation of a hard substance. º
Dryness in morning after waking, so that she could scarcely swallow, with
white tongue and acid taste. º Salivation ; bitter, with qualmishness. º Clayey
odor in morning after rising. º Bitter taste in morning on waking, with dry
lips, without thirst ; to food in morning ; and insipid, all day ; B. and insipid
after food and drink. º Sour taste in morning after waking ; posteriorly on
tongue in morning after waking, amel. eating. º Oily taste.
Throat :- º Sticking in sides on empty swallowing ; S. low down on empty
swallowing. º Constriction of parotids. º Rawness at 7 P.M. ; R. on hawking,
with feeling as if trachea were closed by a film. º Roughness in morning on
rising, with hoarse, rough voice. º Dryness in morning, without thirst ; D. on
going into open air, with rough voice, cutting in abdomen and nausea in
chest ; and scraping, compelling hawking ; itching, in morning, provoking
hacking cough. º Feeling as from hunger.
Stomach :- º Aversion to eating at noon. º Thirst for beer or sour milk at 6
P.M., with dryness of throat ; loss of T. and of all desire to drink. º
Eructations ; in morning, with yawning and ill humor ; tasting of breakfast ;
sickening, nausea ; intermittent. º Disgust at food, though it has a good taste.
º Vomiting.

º Fulness, amel. food. º Drawing sticking, extending into left ear, in region
of tympanum, on laughing. º Pain ; in epigastric region when eating, amel.
pressure of hand ; beneath pit when eating, agg. walking ; in pit, agg. touch,
with pressure on chest ; as from a stone in right side. º Constriction in
morning after rising. º Drawing in epigastric region and nausea as if pit of
stomach were internally dilated. º Distress, agg. dinner, she thought she
would feel better if she could eructate, with attacks of nausea. º Burning,
extending into chest ; in pit, extending up under sternum to palate, with
soreness and uneasiness ; as after long hunger, rising through pharynx into
head, generally causing jerking or tensive sticking in temples or forehead ;
qualmish, rising into mouth in morning, with sourish-bitter dryness of
mouth. º Acid burning like heartburn, rising almost to mouth in evening ;
rising to mouth in morning on rising, with nausea.
Abdomen :- º Large. º Frequent tympanitic distention, amel. emission of
flatus. º Cutting in evening. º Griping in A. and sides ; amel. pressure and
loose, tenacious stool, with shaking chill ; G. in morning, then usual stool,
with cutting in rectum ; at 4.30 A.M., with movings then soft stool ; with
movings, as before stool ; then pale, yellow, sandy stool. º Pain ; agg. cold
food ; as if ulcerated, in evening, with pressure in hypochondria ; drawing,
when eating ; flatulent, in morning in bed, not amel. emission of odorless
flatus. º Shaking, as if intestines were loose when walking. º Discomfort,
extending into head, as from smoking tobacco.
º Rawness in upper, extending into sternum. º Sticking from left lowest ribs
to pit of stomach on rising and stretching body. º Bruised pain beneath last
ribs. º Sore pain beneath last ribs, agg. touch and motion. º Constriction
rising from middle into chest (pharynx) with nausea and warmth. º Painful
contraction, now in right, nor in left side, so that she sat bent over. º
Umbilical region, cutting, on deep breathing ; drawing pain in morning ;
tensive pain about and above umbilicus, then flatulent pain and emission of
flatus ; warmth, gradually extending over whole abdomen. º Hypogastrium,
sticking, then soft stools ; S. in right groin ; tensive pain as if a sinew were
swollen, with pain on touch ; warmth, as from a hot drink moving back and
forth, at last rising to stomach ; burning soreness in bend of right thigh.
Rectum and Stool :- º Rumbling in. º Tearing in R. after dinner. º
Constriction of anus when sitting. º Two soft stools in evening. º Stool dry,
difficult, infrequent. º Constipation ; for twenty-four hours, then yellow,
sandy stool, with tenesmus and constriction in anus. º S. omitted.
Urinary Organs :- º Cutting in region of bladder in evening when sitting,
agg. standing and walking, but he urinated without trouble. º Sticking into
urethra when sitting if he quietly emits flatus ; S. in meatus urinarius when
not urinating. º Cutting in middle of urethra when not urinating. º Urging ;
after eating an apple ; frequent urging ; during the day ; with profuse
discharge ; with scanty discharge. º Frequent micturition of golden-yellow
urine. º Urine turbid and deposits an earthy sediment ; U. deposits a violet
earthy sediment.
Sexual Organs :- º º At times burning dragging from vesiculæ seminales to

glans. º Drawing pain and weakness in testicles and spermatic cords as if


they could be pulled out with weak feeling in genitals. º Sticking in prepuce.
º Itching within scrotum, not amel. pinching or working skin ; voluptuous I.
of corona glandis.
Female :- º Pressure. º Abortion. º Leucorrhœa ; intermittent. º Menstruation
at an unusual time ; too early and scanty (Nat. m., Ars.), lasting two days ;
woke at 1 A.M., with griping and pinching above pubes, coldness of trunk,
head and arms, profuse cold sweat, internal heat, dry sensation of tongue,
which was moist, warmth of lower limbs, apprehension, restlessness, tossing
from side to side, intolerance of uncovering in spite of heat, after fifteen
minutes ineffectual inclination to eructate, then empty eructations and
emission of flatus, thirst, eructations of water into throat, nausea, pallor,
warm sweat on lower limbs, weakness of feet so that she could not raise
them inclination to stool, hardness and sensitiveness of hypogastrium on
rubbing, then after Ipecac. sound sleep, waking at 6 A.M. with heaviness of
head and too early appearance of menses of thick, black blood (Compare
Arsen.).
Respiratory Organs :- º Sticking on each side of larynx extending into left
ear, on swallowing food and drink. º Rough voice in morning, amel.
smoking. º Inclination to cough in morning. º Irritation to cough, he tries to
cough loose something in larynx, but it is difficult, and mucus is loosened
more by forcible expiration than by real cough. º Deep cough with
expectoration, amel. lying down, recurring next day with firm mucous
expectoration and shattering pain in pit of stomach and chest, suddenly
amel. noon. º Paroxysms of dry cough ; dry C. from reading aloud or
talking, with dryness, roughness and constriction in larynx, causing
sensitive cough, with which mucus was loosened after long hawking (Kali
c.) ; dry C. causing shooting into sides of head. º Cough in morning, with
expectoration. º Bloody expectoration. º Expectoration of much pale green,
yellowish mucus in lumps in morning, almost without cough.
Clinical :- º Cough, laryngeal catarrh, with dryness and tickling in
larynx, especially with hoarseness or loss of voice, the attempt to clear the
larynx causing a sensation of rawness and sometimes stitches ;
particularly valuable for anæmic persons who are predisposed to catarrhal
troubles. º A very valuable remedy for boys and girls when the voice is
changing and persists in being harsh, especially when associated with
catarrh and frequent efforts to clear the voice. º The cough is apt to
become worse in the evening until lying down, not worse through the
night ; the expectoration is scanty and tough ; cough, agg. taking or
breathing, associated with sore bruised feeling in chest. º Cough from
reading aloud, with dryness and rawness in larynx. º Laryngitis, with great
accumulation of mucus and rough voice. º Palliative in phthisis of the
larynx, especially with rawness and great hoarseness.

Chest :- º Sticking in upper part of sternum ; in left clavicle and axilla ; now
in right, now in left side in morning ; in upper, on expiration ; beneath left
axilla on motion of trunk ; on right lowest ribs on stooping ; inward in right
side near sternum ; drawing extending upward and downward in left ;
drawing upward, at times on expiration ; constrictive, in forenoon on deep

breathing ; itching, in right nipple. º Sudden shock downward in left as far as


last true ribs when sitting. º Cutting like a digging in sides of sternum, above
pit of stomach, in evening. º Digging in right clavicle, with gnawing. º Pain
on coughing ; P. behind sternum ; sticking burning, beneath left second rib,
agg. expiration and motion, amel. rest and inspiration. º Bruised pain ; in
sternum in morning ; in upper, and bending forward, amel. rising, returning
on stooping. º Cartilaginous sensation drawing downward in lower part. º
Oppression in morning, with constriction of breathing. º Throbbing in right
as from the beat of the heat there, in evening in bed. º Warmth in evening,
with stopped catarrh and hot breath, which he feels in fauces on inspiration
and expiration, preceded by internal chilliness ; burning beneath upper part
of sternum, then also in stomach ; by left shoulder, more externally, agg.
pressure and rubbing ; internal. º Nauseous warmth, with hot breath and
burning in trachea ; N. warmth, with feverish and burning in cheeks, at last
external heat.
Heart and Pulse :- º Palpitation. º Pulse irregular, scarcely perceptible,
now faster, now slower (Ars.).
Neck :- º Digging in vertebræ at night. º Cramplike pain in muscles in
evening on moving them. º Whirling rising from nape over vertex to
forehead in afternoon during motion, with stupefaction and confusion of
senses when standing. º Stiffness of nape ; drawing tensive, in nape,
alternating with toothache ; S. and swelling, with pain in muscles coming
from teeth.
Back :- º Sticking between scapulæ ; in ischia when sitting ; in region of left
kidney, then jerking constriction ; itching, in middle, amel. rubbing. º
Tearing along spine ; T. in left scapula when sitting. º Pain in small of, on
bending backward. º Burning pain in a spot above left sacral region
extending to first lumbar vertebræ.
Extremities :- º Weakness of joints, with feeling in them as if stretched,
trembling of limbs, tremulous feeling in knee and shoulder-joints, and
anxiety.
Upper Extremities :- º Sticking beneath left axilla, with twinging, then
sticking in condyles of left elbow, with twinging. º Tearing externally on
right shoulder, then itching. º Sprained pain in shoulder-joint ; and in elbow,
with yawning. º Drawing tensive pain in shoulders extending across nape, as
if laced by a band. º Bubbling in S. joint, with pain like a boil when touched.
Arm :- º º Tensive pain in joints of A. and hand, here and there. º
Paroxysmal pain in joints. º Drawing through whole A. to shoulder, with
tearing. º Sick, weary feeling. º Weakness. º Upper arm, sticking in right,
extending towards shoulder ; boring sticking outward on inner side of right ;
pain on outer side of right ; sudden painful jerking on outer side of right ;
drawing in inner side or right, with tearing ; sudden weakness so that it must
hang down, with drawing in biceps. º Humerus, gnawing in lower end at
night ; boring in marrow of right often aggravated, when it extended into
shoulder, amel. pressure and motion of arm, but often returning ;

intermittent digging at night when lying on same side.


º Sprained pain in elbow, with much yawning. º Bubbling in elbow, with
pain like a boil when touched. º Drawing sticking on back of right forearm ;
tearing S. above right. º Wrist, extending to forearm. º Tearing in lower end
of radius. º Pain in muscles of forearm close to wrist ; tensive P. below
elbow as if too short, on stretching arm. º Sticking in bones of right wrist,
then pain as if capsule of joint were distended and bones seized and pushed
forward. º Jerking tearing in marrow behind right ring finger extending to
arm, in afternoon. º Tearing-sticking pinching in left palm, in ball of thumb.
º Tearing cramplike pain in muscles of right hand, agg. thumb and index. º
Drawing tensive pain in bones and joints of right hand, almost as if laced,
then heat of hand. º Tension in hand as if swollen at 4 P.M. if she clenches it
or stretches it out.
Fingers :- º Sticking in first joints of left ring and middle, agg. pressure. º
Drawing tearing to left middle. º Tearing as if tendons would be torn out on
back of left middle ; in margin of left thumb at 9 A.M., with sticking. º
Cutting in first phalanx of right index, with warmth in it. º Cramplike pain in
first joints of right middle and ring as if tendons would be contracted, but
motion was free. º Jerking or drawing pain in index in evening. º Paralytic
pain as after a blow in first joint of left index, agg. rest.
Lower Extremities :- º Jerking of all muscles on slightest motion. º
Cramplike drawing in left nates extending to anus, on stretching thigh, agg.
standing on that leg and by sitting down, amel. drawing up foot and while
sitting, agg. rising from a seat, so that he could not walk unless he pressed
upon the spot. º Burning pain in a spot on left nates, as if a pustule would
form, agg. sitting. º Pinching sticking on outer side of thigh, amel. sitting,
agg. walking so that he must stand still ; jerking S. above knee extending to
upper part of thigh, in evening. º Twinging in muscles of inner side of thigh
after walking, causing anxiety and faintness as if he would sink down. º
Bruised pain in muscles of right hip, agg. sitting ; B. pain transversely across
thigh. º Weakness of thighs and legs, with sleepiness ; paralytic, in right
hip-joint in morning, with stitches, making him limp.
º Trembling of knees in evening when walking. º Sticking in bends of knees
when walking and sitting ; tearing S. in left calf when sitting. º Tearing a
hand's breadth above and below knee, on outer surface ; on outer surface of
left calf, with itching ; internally in right calf, with external burning ;
drawing, on right tibia when sitting. º Griping in left calf, with pinching and
with pain from bend of knee to external malleolus pressure in muscles of left
leg near ankle. º Smarting in right tibia as if beaten. º Drawing in left tibia
when standing, with sore pain as if broken. º Tension in right leg as if stiff
when walking in open air. º Stiffness of right leg, agg. calf, in evening when

Pimples on upper part of chest ; tense, on nates, with suppurative pain on
pressure ; itching, on inner surface of left wrist, the I. agg. scratching, then a
red spot ; tips covered with scabs, on thighs, with itching burning morning
and evening, and after rubbing pain as if sore and ulcerated. º Pustules on
right wing of nose ; on chin, with tensive pain, leaving a red spot. º
Suppurating ulcer, with blue margins and sticking, agg. night, developed
from a scratch on first joint of little finger. º Painful fissures on bends of
joints of thumbs and in bend of middle joint of middle finger.
º Tearing between root of nose and right brow as if seized. º Twinging in
front of left axilla as if pulled ; T. on anterior surface of left thigh as if
pinched or raised by a needle, in open air, then pain for a long time. º
Pinching on inner surface of left forearm, amel. pressure, but returning. º
Pain on chin as after shaving with a nicked razor, or as from an ulcer. º
Corroding acridity just below nose. º Itching soreness between right fourth
and fifth toes. º Tension on ring finger on separating fingers. º Formication
over left mamma. º Tickling in hollow of right sole.
º º Itching on tibia ; in middle of right scapula ; on inner surface of left
forearm in forenoon, and after scratching small pimples ; on outer surface of
left forearm at 6 P.M. and on scratching a burning pimples appeared and skin
became rosy, but white on pressure ; on knees in evening ; in hollows of
knees, preventing rest at night. º Itching amel. scratching, here and there ;
on outer surface of right elbow ; in left palm ; on forepart of left knee ;
beneath left lower jaw ; on outer surface above below at 10 A.M. º Itching
followed after scratching by pimples beneath corners of mouth ; I. followed
after scratching by itching pimples, below left calf ; I. followed after
scratching by itching, deeply-seated pimples, on anterior surface of right
upper arm ; I. followed after scratching by itching vesicles, not amel.
scratching, then burning, on left shoulder. º Itching of fingers, and after
rubbing transparent vesicles. º Voluptuous itching below right calf, and after
scratching deeply-seated pimples, which ceased to itch soon after being
scratched bloody, then the place itched a long time ; V. I. on nape at 7 P.M.,
not amel. scratching. º Tickling itching in palm in evening, agg. scratching,
amel. licking with tongue. º Biting itching over whole body after becoming
heated and sweating. º Burning itching on under side of left thigh at 6 P.M.,
and after scratching sore pain, and on touch bruised feeling ; on outer
margin of right thumb, and after scratching a red spot, then a vesicle full of
serum, with biting.
Clinical :- º Numerous skin symptoms have been palliated by this drug,
notably lichen, pityriasis and psoriasis.

Sleep :- º Yawning. º In his dreams he always lay on his back, instead of on


right side. º Sound sleep, with anxious dream of danger to life. º Half awake
at midnight, no sound sleep till towards morning on account of anxious
restlessness and tossing about. º Restless sleep, with heavy dreams and
weakness on waking. º Dreams as soon as he falls asleep. º Lively dreams. º
Peevish dreams. º Vivid, anxious dreams ; and frightful ; and confused ; V.,

confused, of constantly varying objects ; V., of a reconciliation ; V., of


something that really happened the next day ; V., of objects in rapid
alternations, with frequent waking and consciousness of the dream, which in
the morning was only vaguely remembered ; V. at 3 A.M. that he was with
his physician.
Fever :- º Chilliness all day on going into open air ; in morning after rising,
with gooseflesh, also from 7 till 9 P.M., then thirst ; every evening. º Shaking
chill in morning, with cold hands and feet ; in evening, with greater coldness
of feet than of hands, with sticking in sinciput, the C. amel. in the house ;
late in evening, with coldness of feet and of right leg, without thirst or heat ;
on walking in open, not cold air, amel. rapid walking, but hands and feet
only became warm in the house. º Shivering ; sudden, as from a fright, in
morning ; over back, with sticking in head. º Coldness in a spot on vertex,
even when head is covered, with bristling of hair ; C. of hands and feet,
without chilliness ; of feet when walking ; sudden, in soft parts of tip of left
thumb.
º Heat in flushes, agg. standing, with redness of face. º Burning over whole
skin in evening on rising in bed, amel. lying down. º Heat in head at 4 P.M. ;
H. in head, with chilliness in rest of body ; frequently rising into head, with
thirst ; burning in bone above right temple ; B. in one spot on right frontal
bone. º Sudden heat in back when sitting, with contraction of pupils, then
sweat. º Peculiar lukewarm sensation in left leg. º Burning externally on
right side of chin of chin ; on lower surface of right upper arm, extending
towards shoulder, with yawning. º Sweat at night on waking ; and
compelling scratching ; on legs, agg. feet, at night on waking ; on throat on
waking.
