a brief description and a possible solution.

For example:

M-7.3-16 Rev. 00 of 25/10/2010 Use and maintenance manual for blood bank refrigerators 25
4 USER’S INSTRUCTIONS
Alarm Code: E01

Description: Door opened!

Solution: Close door!

The temperature is shown at the bottom-left

corner.

Alarm Codes
• E01 – Door opened
o Cause: The door has been left opened for a time greater than the delay set on
“Door Alarm” section, or alarm door was enabled on a refrigerator without door
switch.
o Solution: Close the door, increment the delay time or thisable this alarm.
• E02 – Freeze Alarm
o Cause: the internal temperature persists under the selected threshold for a time
greater than the selected delay.
o Solution: Control the internal temperature. Load the refrigerator most evenly as
possible. Unplug the power cable, let the door opened for 10 minutes. If the
problem persists, contact technical assistance.
• E03 – Defreeze Alarm
o Cause: the internal temperature persists over the selected threshold for a time
greater than the selected delay. Caution! It may appear during the first power-
up, expecially when the set point is very low (fridges). Simply ignore it and wait
until it reaches the desired temperature.
o Solution: Control the internal temperature. Load the refrigerator most evenly as
possible. Do not put internal products until the rear panel on the shelf , as the
coll air can reach all the internal volume. Verify defrost parameters. Run 2-3
manual defrost cycles. Clean the air filter. If the temperature doesn't go down
(even slowly) contact assistance.
• E04 – Compressor temperature
o Cause: the compressor temperature persists under the selected threshold for a
time greater than the selected delay.
o Solution: Clean the air filter. Assure a distance between the refrigerator and the
rear wall of about 15-20 cm.

o Cause: the internal battery is not charge or is not present (even configured)
o Solution: check the battery charge. Check if the refrigerator model is with a
battery.
• E07 – E09 : Probe alarms. See related section
• E10 – SD/MMC Alarm
o Cause: The inserted SD/MMC card is not recognized.
o S: Format the SD/MMC card. We suggest SanDisk 2GB SD card. Do not use
microSD with adapters

4.6.1 PROBE ALARMS AND RECOVERY MODE

The internal control logic is able to recognize probe fail conditions. The refrigerator’s behaviour is
different if there is a fail on demoister / condenser probe respect to the internal probe. A probe is
M-7.3-16 Rev. 00 of 25/10/2010 Use and maintenance manual for blood bank refrigerators 26
4 USER’S INSTRUCTIONS
failed when it returns senseless values out of the normal working range of the refrigerator. Broken-
wire probe or probe absent but configured belongs to probe fail cases.
Possibile probes are:
Internal ambient;
Condenser;
Demoister;
If there’s a fail on demoister and/or condenser probe the display will continue showing the
internal temperature and also signals with an exclamation icon the alarm condition reporting which
probe is in alarm. Being an alarm condition, it will generate an asynchronous alarm log.

Evaporator Probe Condenser Probe

The worst condition is the internal probe fail, in which revealing the internal temperature cannot
be possible. For this reason the internal control logic will switch to a particular working mode called
Recovery Mode. This policy will act the replication of compressor on and off times imitating the last
24hour of normal working. For example, if in the last 24 hours there was a 8 hour of pump-on time
and 16 hours of pump-off time the control logic will maintain this ratio in order to act the same
regulation. The display won’t be able to show the internal temperature, and it will show an
exclamation icon and an indication of the Recovery Mode. Being an alarm condition, it will
generate an asynchronous alarm log.

4.7 LOGS AND INTERFACES

The evolution of temperature chart recorder is represented by the management of electronic

data. The refrigerator operates, in addition to the internal temperature, more detailed information
on its status (normal, alarm, other probes..). Every time the refrigerator updates the information, it
issues a LOG.

M-7.3-16 Rev. 00 of 25/10/2010 Use and maintenance manual for blood bank refrigerators 27
4 USER’S INSTRUCTIONS
There are 2 LOG types: normal LOGS and alarm LOGS. The on-board microprocessor
handles all the LOG interfaces in the same way, so the same text string is forwarded to:
• SERIAL PORT - using RS232 protocol (9600 to 115200bps – 8N1).
• ETHERNET PORT - via UDP protocol (default port 64950 can be modified)
• SD/MMC memory card – writing daily LOG files that can be opened with a notepad
• GSM interface - using the SMS protocol that forwards the LOG up to 5 configurable
mobile numbers (It sends ONLY alarm LOGS)

The LOG format is uniquely defined and each LOG is composed by alphanumeric characters
(data and field delimiters)

4.7.1 LOG FORMAT

NORMAL LOG FORMAT

Normal LOGs can be like the follow one:

DESMON_TST ; 15-10-2009;19:30:58;+06,1;-07,3;+41,5;NORMAL;
refrigerator with 3 probes (ambient;demoister;condenser)

DESMON_TST ; 15-10-2009;19:38:45;+06,1;-07,3;NA;NORMAL;
refrigerator with 2 probes(ambient; condenser)
Each field represents:
- DESMON_TST - SERIAL / SIC NUMBER
- 15-10-2009 - CURRENT DATE
- 19:30:58 - CURRENT TIME
- +06,1 - TEMPERATURE [AMBIENT PROBE]
- -07,3 - TEMPERATURE [DEMOISTER PROBE] (“NA” IF NOT PRESENT)
- +41,5 - TEMPERATURA [CONDENSER PROBE] (“NA” IF NOT PRESENT)
- NORMAL - NORMAL STATE
- ; - END OF LOG
- CRLF - ASCII CHARACTERS #13 #10 END OF LINE

The “;” character delimits each field. So you can directly import each log file with most
common spreadsheet software (MS Excel, OpenOffice Calc, etc..) as CSV – Comma Separated
Values.

The normal LOG is created and transmitted with a configurable time interval for each interface
(RS232,SD/MMC,ETHERNET) and informs about the normal working refrigerator state.

ALARM LOG FORMAT

An example of an alarm log is:

DESMON_TST ; 15-10-2009;19:30:58;+06,1;-07,3;+41,5;ALARM;DOOR;

Each field represents:

DESMON_TST - SERIAL / SIC NUMBER
15-10-2009 - CURRENT DATE
19.30 - CURRENT TIME
+06,1 - TEMPERATURE [AMBIENT PROBE] (“Fail” IF FAILS )
-07,3 - TEMPERATURE [DEMOISTER PROBE] (“NA” IF NOT PRESENT | “Fail” IF FAILS)
+41,5 - TEMPERATURA [CONDENSER PROBE] (“NA” IF NOT PRESENT | “Fail” IF FAILS)
ALARM - ALARM STATE
{LIST} - ALARM IDENTIFIERS SEPARED BY “;”
; - END OF LOG
CRLF - ASCII CHARACTERS #13 #10 END OF LINE

The alarm identifiers are (in this sequence):

DOOR - opened door alarm
FREEZE - Ambient temperature under the specified threshold
DEFREEZE - Ambient temperature over the specified threshold
POWER - AC Power failure (only if your model has a configured battery)
CONDENSER - Condenser temperature exceeding the configured limit
BATTERY - Low battery

ALARM LOGS are generated and sent in an asynchronous way when the alarm condition
appears and when the normal state for each alarm has been resumed (all interfaces) and if the
alarm condition persist, with specified time interval replacing the normal log ( on RS232 – SD/MMC
– ETHERNET).

The “;” character delimitates each field. So you can directly import each log file with most
common spreadsheet software (MS Excel, OpenOffice Calc, etc..) as CSV – Comma Separated
Values.

4.9 SD/MMC MEMORY CARD

All refrigerators embed a datalogger that will register temperature and alarm logs on a Multimedia
Card (MMC) or Secure Digital card.
The refrigerator is compatible with all memory cards MultiMedia Card (MMC) and with Secure
Digital memory cards, with the exception of the MINI and MICRO Secure Digital, even if they can
be placed in the refrigerator with adapter. The specificity of these memories requires some
precautions in its usage in order to preserve the registered data and to allow a correct and safe
operation of the refrigerator.

Formatting the Card

The refrigerator will only access a correctly formatted card; before using the card on the unit you
will need to format it. Plug the card in your PC then format it according to the procedure of your
operating system (Windows, Linux, Mac OS, ecc…). Please select a FAT or FAT32 file-system
type.

Inserting and Removing the Card

All new front panels (year 2010 serial numbers) have a SD/MMC slot where the card completely
fits inside the panel. The Card slot is located underneath the display.

Insert the Cards, contacts down, and with the angle notch on the right side. Gently push she card
until you feel a “click” indicating the Card is locked in place.

Once the card is inserted, the refrigerator will beep and the card icon will appear on top of the
display indicating the unit can access the card’s file-system and thus record the scheduled logs.
If after inserting the card, the refrigerator does not beep and no icon is displayed, the unit is not
able to access the card and it won’t record any data.
With some card types (particularly SDs), the unit first does some operations on the card, so it can
happen that the unit will beep and display the icon with some delay. In any case, if at the and of a
full minute (00 seconds on the top-right clock) the card symbol does not appear on the display,
please remove the card, check it and format it and in case change it if faulty. If the refrigerator
doesn’t reach to gain full access to SD/MMC card, it will disable it until new card is recognized and
shows E10 Alarm.
In extreme cases, a broken card may affect the correct behavior of the refrigerator. If the display
becomes blank and the internal light turns on while inserting the card or if the unit, or if something
like a shutdown happens, please instantly remove the cart.

To safely remove the card, push it until you feel a “click” indicating the card is unlocked. A spring
will push the card out of the slot.
When removing the card, the refrigerator will “beep” and the card icon disappears from the
screen.

Once one card is inserted and regularly detected by the unit, please wait at least 10
seconds before removing it. Inserting and removing a card too quickly may seriously
damage the card and invoke a reset of the refrigerator control unit! In fact, you will never
treat this way the memory card of your brand new digital camera…
