SUBJECT: Narrative report on the 3rd College – Wide Journalism Conference,


2nd Gender Sensitivity Writing Seminar (Journalism Seminar and
Workshop, Campus Paper Management)

Ma’am:

This has reference to the journalism conference we attended at 4 th floor of


the MPSPC Science Building on April 7 – 8, 2018, which was conducted by the
staffs of our school publication, Tala, the Mocking Bird. The said journalism
conference covered an overview of guidelines, steps and other techniques of
writing articles like news writing, development communication, poetry, sports
writing, feature and the like.
This activity is targeted to amateur and or experience journalists and
aspirants. This seminar – workshop aims to enhance the skills of the participants
in the field of journalism. In addition, one of the objectives of this seminar is to
enable every departments of our school to produce their departmental publication
at the end of the semester.
The journalism – conference was attended by the Tala, the Mocking Bird
staffs, representatives from the departments of Accountancy, Criminology,
Nursing, Office Administration, Liberal Arts, Business Administration, HRM,
Information Technology and Teacher Education. Interested individuals from the
SSC, different organizations and officers also joined the said activity.
On the first day of the journalism – conference Ms. Flordeliza G. Cruz,
Director of GAD unit, and Ms. Brioness oriented us on gender sensitivity writing.
They emphasized on the current issues regarding the LGBQT society and about
the GAD equality. After the inspiring talk, the other speakers immediately
preceded in their respective lectures on news writing, development
communication writing, poetry, sports and photojournalism. Aside from the
lectures, we had a workshop and critiquing after the lectures. The second day
was focused on lectures regarding editorial writing, Literary Graphics and
Illustrations, Feature writing, Editorial cartooning, Headline and Opinion Writing.
They also oriented us on Lay outing and page design which was quite complex to
do. For every lectures or discussions, there is a question and answer session to
which queries (from participants) were resolved and answered.
