THE LAND OF BANGLADESH

BANGLADESH is a low- lying , riverine country


located in South Asia with a largely marshy jungle
coastline of 580 km on the Northern littoral of Bay
of Bengal.
LOCATION
 Bangladesh is located on the
Sothern edge of the world′s largest
continent , Asia.
 The middle point of the country lies
approximately at latitude 23˚North
and longitude 90˚East.
 Bangladesh shares the same line of
longitude as Tibet, China and
Russia.
Unique thing of Bangladesh’s location
 The combination of two
locations-
 One on the edge of the Tropics
and the other 0n the edge of a
great land mass-is responsible
for the topical monsoonal
climate.
Climate
Straddling the Tropic of
cancer ,climate of Bangladesh
is topical.On the basis of
different elements of climate
such as annual rainfall,
temperature, stream of air ,
atmospheric pressure etc .the
seasons are generally
recognized.
1.Hot and muggy summer from
March to May.
2.Hot ,Humid and Rainy Season
from June to October .
3.Warm –hot and dry winter
from November to February.

o With a latitudinal and
longitudinal extent of
roughly 6˚and
4˚respictively, Bangladesh
covers an area of
147,500sq.km.
o 10,000 sq km of that area
is rivers that thread their
way through the country
to the Bay of Bengal.
o Bangladesh is surrounded
by sea to the south and by
various Indian states on
the other three sides.

is 4712km.of this ,

281 km is with
Myanman and 716
km is with the sea.

 According to the last
census taken in 2001,
Bangladesh had a
population of around 160
million .this made
Bangladesh the ninth
largest country in the
world.
 However ,we take both
area and population into
account ,and calculate the
mean density of
population ,the figure for
Bangladesh is 1101
person per sq.km.

River System
 Rivers of Bangladesh mark both physiography of the
nation and the life of the people.
 About 700 in numbers (major 310)generally flow to
the south, These 310 rivers are covering about 845
miles.
 The rivers system that flows through Bangladesh
comprises the third largest source of fresh water
discharge to the world′s oceans.
 During the monsoon, these rivers flow at about
140000 cubic meters per second, while during dry
season they diminish to 7000 cubic meters per
second.
 Water is important for agriculture. More than 60% of
the net arable land is cultivated in the rainy season
despite the risk of severe flood .
RIVERS
Bangladesh is a riverine country. About 800 rivers
including tributaries flow through the country
constituting a waterway of total length around
24140 km .Most of the countries land is formed
through silt brought by the rivers. Following is a list
of some of the major rivers of Bangladesh.
Padma:
The Padma is one of the largest rivers in
Bangladesh.The river rises in the glaciers of the
Himalayas.

Brahmaputra:It is also called Tsangpo-


Brahmaputra, is trans –boundary river and one
of the major rivers of Asia.
Buriganga
The burigonga is the main river flowing beside
Dhaka city ,capital of Bangladesh.The average
depth is 25 feet and maximum depth is 58 feet.
Meghna:
The Meghna river is an important river in
bangadesh .being a part of the Surma –Mehgna
River system ,Meghna is formed inside
Bangladesh by the joining of different rivers
originating from the hilly regions of eastern
India.
Jamuna
The jamuna river is one of the three main rivers
of Bangladesh.The Jamuna flows south and
joins the Padma river near Goalonda Ghat,
before meeting the meghna river near Chadpur.
