CAST

JAMES – The flawed protagonist.

WILL – Oscars sidekick character.

OSCAR – The long-time friend of James with a long criminal


past.

JUDGE – The courtroom judge.

POLICE – Authoritative character.

LAWYER – Wise advice giver.

SCENE ONE: INT. COURTROOM.

(Judge and James)

SOUND: Banging of gavel on wooden desk.

SOUND: Shouting and talking of attendants among


one another

JUDGE: ORDER! ORDER! I would like MR JAMES


ROBERTS to come to the stand next

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS AGAINST A WOODEN FLOOR

JUDGE: Repeat after me I” James Roberts” do


solemnly. Sincerely and truly declare and
affirm that the evidence I shall give be
the truth the whole truth and nothing but
the truth.

JAMES: (SIGHS) I” James Roberts” do solemnly,


sincerely, and truly declare and affirm
that the evidence I shall give be the
whole truth and nothing but the truth.

JUDGE: Okay can you explain the events that


took place on the week of December the
8th.

JAMES: (Breathes in and out) Where should I


start.

SCENE TWO: INT. OSCARS APARTMENT.

(JAMES, OSCAR, WILL AND JUDGE)

SOUND: Indication that the scene has changed

JAMES: Oscar I’ve already told you I’m not


tryna get involved with your lifestyle,
its just not for me. I know I need money
for my family but I’m not risking going
to prison simple as.

OSCAR: Okay sure, don’t get involved, live the


rest of your life on benefits and don’t
provide for your family

JAMES: I get you but……

OSCAR: BUT WHAT! Me and WILL know what we’re


doing, we’ve done this hundreds of times.

JAMES: Jesus Christ you’ve robbed corner shops


and supermarkets before this is a bank
were talking about.

OSCAR: But you’ve got the codes to the safe,


don’t you? Then its not gonna be any
different we get in, get the money, and
leave!

WILL: We’ve got everything we need nothing can


go wrong. Chill out mate!

JAMES:

CUTS BACK TO COURTROOM

JAMES: So yeah, we got our stuff together and


planned to go into the bank in a few days
later.

JUDGE: MR ROBERTS can you explain what happened


on the day of the robbery.

SCENE THREE: INT. CAR HEADING TO BANK

(OSCAR, JAMES, AND WILL)

OSCAR: Okay its time, JAMES you go to safe get


the money, me and WILL can take care of
the people.

SOUND: Closing car doors and running into the


bank, Bank doors opening.

MUSIC: Dramatic music to build tension

OSCAR: EVERYONE GET ON THE FLOOR THIS IS A


****ING ROBBERY

STRANGER: (Screaming)

SOUND: OSCAR cocks back his gun

SOUND: Heavy breathing

WILL: JAMES HAVE YOU GOT THE SAFE!

JAMES: IM WORKING ON IT!

SOUND: KEYPAD NOISES

SOUND: KEYPAD FAILS

JAMES: NO NO NO!

SOUND: JAMES tries the keypad again

JAMES: I GOT IT.

SOUND: OPEINING OF SAFE DOOR

SOUND: JAMES putting money in his bag

JAMES: IVE GOT IT ALL LET’S GET OUT OF HERE


BEFORE THE POLICE COME!

JAMES: OSCAR take the money and go to the


location, WILL get in the car with me.

OSCAR: Okay, good luck.

SOUND: Running to the car, opening the car


door, tyres screeching and car driving
away.

SCENE FOUR. INT. CAR

(JAMES AND WILL)

MUSIC: Radio playing upbeat hip hop music.

JAMES: Jesus Christ I don’t how we got away


with that.

WILL: What do you mean? That was the easy


part, the hard bit is getting away.

JAMES: Where are we even going?

WILL: As far away as possible.

SOUND: Very faint police sirens slowly getting


louder.

JAMES: (heavy breathing and stuttering) Do you


hear that

WILL: Stop freaking out!

SOUND: Sirens are as loud as possible

JAMES: DRIVE!!

SOUND: Foot hits the pedal hard, car engine


gets louder

POLICE: (megaphone)PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY!

SOUND: Helicopter noises

WILL AND JAMES OH GOD……

SCENE FIVE INT. COURTROOM.

(JAMES AND JUDGE)

SOUND: BANGING OF GAVEL! And shouting from


spectators

JUDGE: Settle down. Settle down.

JAMES: So, yeah, we got caught and now I’m


here.

JUDGE: What happened your associate, MR OSCAR


ADAMS?

JAMES: He got away with the money…

JUDGE: Yes. I understand that but where did he


go?

JAMES: No comment.

JUDGE: No comment?

JAMES: I would like to speak to my lawyer


first.

JUDGE: Please return to your seat now.

SOUNDS: Footsteps.

SCENE SIX. INT. COURTROOM

(JAMES AND LAWYER)

LAWYER: Well, I’ve got some good news, but it


comes at a cost.

JAMES: Carry on.

LAWYER: From the evidence given from you and


the witnesses the judge is willing to
reduce your sentence down to one year
from 10 years on one demand.

JAMES: Which is.

LAWYER: Well, due to OSCARS past criminal


record and association with many other
crimes throughout the country, the JUDGE
would like you to give up his location
for you to get the reduced sentence.

(MOMANTARY SILENCE)

LAWYER: This is not something that happens very


often so I would recommend you think
very carefully when deciding. Let’s not
forget your new-born son, you wouldn’t
want him growing up without a Dad would
you.

JAMES: Ive known OSCAR since I was in school, I


can’t do that to him.

LAWYER: You and I both know what he’s been doing


for years is wrong.

(LONGER SILENCE)

JAMES: Okay.

SCENE SEVEN. INT COURTROOM

(JUDGE, JAMES AND POLICE OFFICER)

JUDGE: The final verdict has come in.

(PAUSE)

JUDGE: MR. JAMES ROBERTS will be serving a
one-year sentence on the basis that he
co-operates on the search for OSCAR
ADAMS.

WILL: SNITCH!

POLICE OFFICER: Get up James.

JAMES: (Sighs)

SOUND: Handcuffs tightening.

SOUND: Prison doors closing.
