ACTIVITY 1

What are your takeaways from Input 1? What is the importance of understanding World Englishes and
different registers?

With globalization connecting every nook and cranny of the world, communication is
increasingly getting important. World Englishes and language registers are significant concepts, caused
by the flexible nature of people, to understand because it allows for more effective communication,
especially with people from other places.

World Englishes is the result of localization of English brought by, but not limited to, western
colonial powers such as Great Britain and the United States. It is important to know its concept and
implications with communication, especially in an interconnected society. Because of the inherent
adaptability of humans, they managed to attach their cultural identity within the context of an alien
language. Thus, other people with another world English might be confused and unaware of certain
aspects of another world Englishes.

On the other hand, language registers are the different levels of formality with which people
speak. Depending on the circumstance or the one we are conversing with, we use different registers.
We must understand this concept because it allows for a smooth flow of communication. Moreover, if
have awareness of different registers and when or how to use them, misunderstanding will be avoided.

ACTIVITY 2

What did you learn about the importance of a communication plan from Input 2?

What I learned from the video and the infographic is that the communication plan encompasses both
transparency and careful deliberation of choices. Creating a communication plan ensures that once
things go rough for an organization, they can minimize the loss arising from the crisis. During a
dilemma, our judgment typically gets cloudy. This could greatly affect our choices and inevitably, the
results from those choices. We must always weigh different factors when choosing alternatives.
However, communication plans are only effective if it is communicated effectively with the rest of the
members.

INPUT 3

1. Watch this video on communication ethics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFLqxSFES0c

2. Read this short article on ethical communication https://www.rysec.org/10-basics-of-ethical-
communication/

ACTIVITY 3

Explain the importance of ethics in communication.

Just like the communication plan from the previous activity, ethics in communication serves as a
guide for us. Ethics is an equilibrant; it brings balance to everything. It highlights the purpose of ethical
communication--- to provide useful information with integrity and honesty. To use ethics in
communication is to promote it. Without such values, the world would be full of lies and hatred.

In this digital age, it is easy to spew fake information about anybody. We can see this hybrid
warfare in our current sociopolitical landscape. Certain political figures, such as Trump and Duterte,
rose to power because of their usage of disinformation (Bradshaw and Howard, 2017).

To avoid this from ever happening again, we must take a stand. We must ensure that we will live
by our ethical standards. We must spread the truth and only the truth. Because in the end, only the truth
shall prevail.
