1 INTRODUCTION
Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company (KPOC) is a joint operating company
established under the terms of the Kebabangan Cluster Production Sharing Contract (KBBC
PSC) with three shareholders: PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (40%), ConocoPhillips Sabah
Gas Ltd (30%) and Shell Energy Asia Ltd (30%).
The first field development by KPOC is Kebabangan (KBB), where an integrated oil & gas
platform hub located in 140m of water on the edge of the Sabah shelf has been
commissioned and started first gas production in November 2014. The Kamunsu East (KME)
field, some 19km away from KBB platform in deep-water (~750-800m) is planned to be the
second gas field development project to be undertaken by KPOC.
The KME field was discovered in Dec 1998 by the discovery well KME-1. The field was
further appraised by KME-2 in Sept 2013. After considering the full range of wet and dry tree
development concepts feasible for the discovery during the recently completed Feasibility
Review phase, a subsea tie-back to KBB was identified as being preferred and further
investigation during the current SELECT phase will focus on subsea tie-back options only.
The DEH (direct-electric heating) of the gas pipeline has been selected as the preferred
hydrate prevention strategy, with MeOH injection for start up and shut down into the parts of
the subsea system not protected by the DEH system. Meanwhile, MEG hydrate inhibition
remains as a fallback hydrate prevention strategy where the MEG is sent via a separate 3”
pipeline and is continuously injected at the wellheads and then regenerated at KBB. Although
KME will utilise gas, condensate and water treatment ullage becoming available on KBB, it
will still require dedicated inlet slug catching, DEH power generation & distribution and
subsea related facilities and controls. Structural strengthening or extension of the KBB
platform is anticipated to be needed to accommodate these facilities.

2.2 Conclusion
• The base case for the subsea xmas tree installation will be by tree installation vessel
as per Appendix 1. It is recommended however that other options stated in Appendix
1 to be studied further once the drilling sequence has more clarity.
• From the above summary, it can be concluded that one (1) MSV with crane that
capable to lift at least 160MT equipment would be used for KME project execution.
These are including manifolds, manifold foundations, jumpers, umbilical, J-Tube, J-
Tube clamps, UDA, UTA and flying leads. MSV is preferred over the HLV / pipelay
vessel due to its availability in Asia Pacific region.
• Besides lifting capacity, the vessel crane should have high crane height and radius to
lift long and large suction piles, jumper and manifolds. The vessel also required to
have two working class ROV capabilities.
• The proposed MSV will also proposed to transport umbilical in reels and completed
with suitable lay spread (i.e. vertical lay system (VSL)).
• If the proposed MSV is not equipped with a saturation dive system, then a diving
support vessel (DSV) is required for the J-tube and its clamps installation; and
umbilical pull-in trough the J-tube.
• Cargo barge(s) are required for transportation the manifolds, manifold foundations,
jumpers, flying leads, J-tube, clamps, UDA and UTA from shore based facilities to
site. Depending on the size of the cargo barge(s), multiple loadout maybe required to
transport these.
• The proposed MSV's draft should be suitable to regional port capabilities, i.e. Labuan
port.
• Although the general type of installation vessel can be concluded at this stage,
distinctive selection where a single installation vessel is catered for the installation of
particular equipment cannot be defined with confidence at this stage. The vessel
selection will be very much dependent on the contracting strategy considering the
execution cost, risks, responsibilities and interfaces of the parties involved. The
commercial environment for vessel operators in Malaysia contains much uncertainty
and is hard to predict.
• In this document, the initial priority is to identify the critical capabilities and functional
requirements with regard to the installation of the major items of subsea equipment.
The primary installation vessel requirements, i.e. vessel crane capacity and heave
compensation characteristics, overall deck area and storage capacity, vessel
limitation, capability to handle the equipment to be installed, and vessel’s station
keeping capability.
• The final selected execution method will depend on the confirmation from the
potential installation contractors and should be subjected to the JV Operators
approval and verification processes.
2.3 Recommendation
• It is recommended that the selection of installation vessel shall consider the
transportation method of each major item of equipment from the manufacturer. The
selected contract strategy should be reflected in the time and cost of the overall
execution program.
• The findings presented in this report are preliminary strategies based on a desktop
analysis. During FEED the requirements of each major item should be revisited once
final Basis of Design is completed.

3.1.2 Installation Requirement
The installation requirement basically describes the required vessel capabilities to execute
the installation of the Xmas tree.
• The installation of subsea Xmas trees require installation vessel crane that capable
to lift Xmas tree weight as specified in Section 3.1.1.
• Moonpool is required for the installation of Xmas trees.
• Work class ROV is required during the Xmas tree installation.
• The installation vessel shall be suitable for wireline and coiled tubing well servicing
operations if well perforation and unloading is planned.
3.1.3 Vessels
For the installation of the Xmas tree, the minimum vessel requirements of installation vessel
are presented in the list below.
• Installation vessel crane that capable to lift Xmas tree weight as specified in Section
3.1.1.
• The installation vessel for the Xmas trees is usually drilling units such as the MODU
because the installation of the Xmas trees can be included in the well completion.
MSV / ISV with moonpool could be considered as alternative.
• Moonpool and work class ROV capability is required for the installation of Xmas tree.
• The vessel RAO and station keeping (DP2 or higher) must be suitable for Xmas tree
installation. The vessel must allow landing of the Xmas tree and Flow Module with
minimal deceleration (<10m/s) to prevent damage to the electrical components.

3.2 Manifold
3.2.1 Execution Philosophy
Installation of manifold shall include its suction pile foundation.
3.2.1.1 Loadout
Sea fastening on the installation vessel should be prepared prior to manifold loadout. The
loadout and seafastening requirements can be referred to the Preliminary Transportation
Study Report [Ref. 3]. The manifold and its foundations require large deck space to be loaded
out to the installation field. Loading of manifold onto the installation vessel requires calm sea
and should be at near shore based facility to avoid installation downtime due to weather.
3.2.1.2 Installation
The installation method of the manifolds is considered in the equipment design as well as the
appropriate aiding tools required. Typically for this region the substructure and the piping /
valve sections are separated and installed individually to increase available vessels. The
installation of the manifold usually requires large crane capacity, thus high day rates vessels.
Manifolds are often installed using a heavy lift vessel or SURF installation vessel i.e. MSV or
ISV.
For a large equipment (estimated manifold footprint of 16.3m x 9m), spreader bar is used to
facilitate lifting of the manifold for loadout and offshore installation. A typical spreader bar
consists of a single span of pipe or other beam element with associated rigging. Larger crane
lifting radius would also be required for manifold installation.
3.2.1.3 Tie-in and Pre-commissioning
After the manifold is installed and levelled if required, the manifold is connected to the Xmas
tree and control system via jumpers and flying leads. Work class ROV is used to carry out
metrology and to take part in the installation activity including connector make up etc.
Jumpers are usually deployed in purpose made baskets and stands close to the “work site”
using vessel crane.
The pre-commissioning of the manifold such as cleaning, pigging, leak test and control
testing will be commenced upon the completion of the pipeline and subsea system
installation. For single line options it may necessary to install a subsea pig launcher and
provide a motive force to launch a pig. Typically this can be done from a large MSV or flexlay
vessel.
3.2.2 Installation Requirement
As per the Preliminary Transportation Study Report [Ref. 3], the manifold and its foundation
require heavy lifting crane that capable to lift 160MT manifold and its foundation (suction
piles) of 70MT [Ref. 3]. For the installation of heavy manifolds in deep water, the vessel
should be able to manoeuvre and level the manifold to the correct orientation.
Additionally a large deck area is required to transport the manifold and its foundation from the
loadout location to the installation site, installation vessel with large deck area will likely be
the most economical option. Otherwise, a cargo barge may be required to transport the
manifolds and its foundation to the field for installation. On top of that, 13m height suction pile
would require higher crane height to lift overboard.
Work class ROV requirement is also significant in the installation of manifold and two work-
class ROVs in tandem are normally preferred for subsea structure installation. The tasks of
the ROVs include monitoring of the lowering and positioning of the manifold and its
foundation to the seabed, and connector make for EFL and HFL deployment and connection.
ROVs may be used to observe the manoeuvring and levelling of the manifolds throughout the
installation, and can be used for connecting messenger lines, actuating hydraulic devices,
etc.
3.2.3 Vessels
For the installation of the manifold and its foundation, the minimum vessel requirements are
presented below. The possible limitations and constraints during the installation are also
listed in this section.
Offshore Execution Philosophy RZ-KPOC-KME-HUC-RPT-00002 Rev F2
Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company Sdn Bhd Page 14 of 34
• The crane lift capacity of the installation vessel is important in the installation of
manifold due to heavy weight. Installation vessel crane that capable to lift manifold
weight as per Section 3.2.2 is required to perform the installation. An alternative
strategy where splitting the manifold into several lifts is feasible and may be the
preferred option. Crane with steel wire ropes with multifall lowering systems are
limited in their application for very deep water project. The relationship of the lift
capacity and the deployment depth should be taken note. Analysis or calculations
must be performed to ensure the steel wire ropes are within its SWL at the
deployment depth; these calculations should include any loads applicable to surge
etc.
• For the installation of subsea manifold in deep water, heave compensation systems
are often used to compensate the heave motion during the lowering of the subsea
equipment. Excessive dynamic amplification during the lowering of subsea
equipment may results in overloading and failure of the cable. Heave compensation
systems can also improve the landing and positioning of the subsea structure on
seabed. The stability and sea-keeping ability of the vessel is an important
characteristic for the installation of heavy structure such as the manifold and its
foundation structure.
• Work class ROV multi role vessel is used to assist the manifold installation.
• KME require 2 manifold modules (estimated footprint of 16.3m x 9m) and 2 suction
piles (estimated size 8m radius) on deck. The large size of the manifold and its
foundations require large deck area on the vessel with suitable load bearing capacity.
The manifold can be loaded onto vessel that has sufficient deck area or otherwise, a
cargo barge would be required to transport the manifold and foundations to the field.
Note that smaller vessels and non-purpose designed vessels may have insufficient
point load capability built into the deck.
• The selection of the types of installation vessel can impact the total cost of
installation significantly. For installation vessel such as HLV and pipelay vessel that
has large deck area, cargo barge may not be necessary and thus, the installation
time and risk can be minimised.

3.4.1.1 Loadout
The loadout of the umbilical to the installation site will depend on the storage / packing
method selected. For reel lay method
method,, the umbilical reels are lifted on-board
on the installation
vessel from the shore based facility or transportation vessel via vessel
el crane or shore crane if
lifting capacity is sufficient
sufficient.
For umbilical storage via carousel, the umbilical is to be transferred from the transportation
vessel onto the installation vessel. Umbilical transfer can either be a direct carousel lift or re-
re
spooling of the umbilical between the carousels onboard the two vessels. This operation will
typically be performed quayside at the nominated shore based facility once the transportation
arrived
d from overseas.
Alternatively, if the umbilical transportation from overseas is via a dedicated installation
vessel fixed with carousel system
system, double handling of the umbilical could be avoided.
avoided Upon
arrival
al in this region, the vessel may make an interim stop at the shore based facility / any
local port, typically
ically for mobilisation of crew, other equipment to be installed (if any) and
fuelling / bunkering.
Post loadout test should be carried out immediately after the loadout operation as per API
17E. If the umbilical h
has been stored in the shore based facility for more than 3 months, pre
loadout test shall be performed.
Other auxiliary equipment required for the umbilical installation includes:
• UDA & UTA
• Bend restrictor
• Pull-in head
• Hang-off

3.4.1.2 Installation
The umbilical installation will involve the installation of ~27km main umbilical from the KBB
platform to a subsea UDA at KME south drill centre and ~3km infield umbilical from the UDA
at KME south drill centre to the UTA at north drill centre. It is assumed that the umbilical will
be installed in a continuous length from KBB to KME. The umbilical can be installed by the
following methods:
st
• 1 End Pull-In – In this option, the installation is initiated by I or J-tube pull-in
operations at the KBB platform. A pull-in wire from the platform is lowered into the
water to be connected to a messenger wire from the vessel. The wires are then
connected via diver or ROV and the messenger wire is paid in to the vessel until the
pull-in wire is retrieved onto the vessel deck. The pull-in wire is connected to the
flexible pull-in head and the pull-in wire can be paid in at the platform while the
umbilical is paid out from the vessel. The pull-in head is lifted over the overboarding
chute/lay tower and lowered into the water using the onboard crane. The pull-in wire
is paid in while the umbilical is paid out until the pull-in head reaches the hang off
point on the platform. Once the umbilical is secured on the platform, the vessel
moves away from the platform along the designated route towards the subsea end
whilst the umbilical is paid out from the vessel. Normal umbilical laying operation
nd
continues until lowering of the 2 end umbilical termination on seabed near the UDA.
The tie-in method at the UDA will consist of;
o Performing the pull-in of the UTH into the UDA
o Connecting to the UDA by means of ROV operated tools.
The infield umbilical connection to the UTA can be of a similar method or alternatively
via stab and hinge over method. The umbilical shall be kept pressurised and
electrically monitored during the laying period.
nd
• 2 End Pull-In – In this option, the installation is initiated at the north drill centre,
subsea end. The UTA shall be overboarded and lowered to its designated position on
the seabed. Once the UTA is on the seabed and suitably secure, the umbilical will be
laid away towards KBB along the designated route. Upon approaching KBB, a tie-in
loop is laid and the pull-in head is lowered into the sea by the onboard crane and
placed at a suitable location on the seabed. The pull-in wire is lowered into the water
from the platform and connected to the pull-in head by either a diver or ROV. The
nd
platform pull-in wire is paid in until the 2 end pull-in head reaches the hang-off point
on the platform.
As per the Umbilical Concept Selection Report [Ref. 2], record shows that installation of
umbilical in deepwater using vertical lay system (VLS) is a common practice in the region.
The umbilical is paid out from the reel or carousel and laid through the vertical lay tower.
3.4.2 Installation Requirement
Basically, the umbilical can be installed by horizontal lay tensioner with vertical over-boarding
system, or closed vertical system, or open vertical lay system. The details of the laying
method can be found in the Umbilical Concept Selection Report [Ref. 2].
Record shows that installation of umbilical in deepwater using vertical lay system (VLS) is a
common practice in the region. Thus, installation vessel with a fixed VLS is preferred.
Alternatively, a suitable lay vessel that could handle a removable VLS may be used.
Work class ROV is required to monitor the laying of the umbilical at the subsea end and the
KBB platform. ROV / diver may be used to connect the pull-in wire to the pull-in head during
the I / J-tube pull-in activity at KBB platform.
Diving work is also required for the new I / J-Tube and clamp installation at KBB. If the
umbilical installation vessel (MSV) is not equipped with a saturation dive system, then a DSV
is required to support the installation.
For the deployment of UDA and UTA, the installation vessel with lifting capability is required.

Well/Well
In terms of well costing we have generated a well by well timing which includes the tree installation
with the rig standing by.
Batch
We have currently put together only one batch schedule, I envisage that we will end up with 3 or 4
other iterations.
Rig only no well intervention vessel ( tree installation vessel only). (Clean up to rig) this is the base
case.
Rig + Light intervention vessel. Install tree and unplug well ( clean up to host option)
