Aperture - a space through which light passes in an optical or photographic instrument,


especially the variable opening by which light enters a camera.

camera obscura - a darkened box with a convex lens or aperture for projecting the image of an
external object onto a screen inside. It is important historically in the development of
photography.

daguerreotype - a photograph taken by an early photographic process employing an iodine-


sensitized silvered plate and mercury vapor.

depth of field - the distance between the nearest and the furthest objects that give an image
judged to be in focus in a camera.

f-stop - a camera setting corresponding to a particular f-number.

focal length - the distance between the center of a lens or curved mirror and its focus.

image sensor - is a sensor that detects and conveys information used to make an image

shutter speed - is the length of time when the film or digital sensor inside the camera is exposed
to light, also when a camera's shutter is open when taking a photograph.
