FUTURE FORMS

1. FUTURE SIMPLE (I /WE=SHALL, WILL)

a) in prediction about the future usually with: think, expect, hope, believe , be afraid, be sure,
probably, perhaps, certainly

e.g. I believe life will change in the 21st century.

b) for on-the-spot decisions or offers

e.g. It`s late. I`ll take a taxi home. I`ll lend you my car if you want.

c) for actions/ events/ situations which will definitely happen in the future and which we cannot
control

e.g. Winter will set in early this year.

I will be 20 soon.

d) for promises, opinions, threats(amenințări), warnings (avertismente), requests(cereri), hopes


and fears (temeri)

e.g. Be quiet or the teacher will be angry! (warning)

I’ll write to you every day! (promise)

Stop talking or I’ll send you out! (threat)

I think he will pass the exam.(opinion)

I hope he will marry me! (hope)

I’m afraid I won’t pass the exam.(fears)

2. BE GOING TO (am de gand sa/ este pe cale sa)

a) for plans, intentions or ambitions

e.g. I`m going to buy a sports car. = am de gând

b) in prediction when there is evidence (dovada) that something will happen in the near future

e.g. It’s cloudy. It’s going to rain.


Someone`s going to fall over that box if you don`t move it. =este pe cale sa

3. PRESENT CONTINUOUS (plan personal de viitor)

- for fixed arrangements in the near future

e.g He`s flying to Turkey next month. He has already booked his flight.

Paul is arriving tomorrow at 5.

4. PRESENT SIMPLE (plan oficial de viitor)

- for timetables/ programmes

e.g. The ferry leaves at eight o`clock tomorrow morning.

The train arrives tomorrow at 5.

5. FUTURE CONTINUOUS

a) for actions which will be in progress at a stated future time (moment fix din viitor)

e.g. This time next week he`ll be flying to Morocco.

b) for actions which will definitely happen in the future, as a result of a routine or arrangement

e.g. I`ll be seeing Jim at work later on today.

c) when we ask politely about someone`s plans for the near future, in order to see if our wishes
fit in with their plans

e.g. Will you be going to the dentist this afternoon? Yes, why? Can you make an appointment
for me to see him?

6. FUTURE PERFECT (WILL + HAVE + 3RD/-ED)

a) for actions which will be finished before a stated future time

e.g. We will have returned home by Sunday afternoon.

I bet she will have read the book in just one day. / in two days’ time.
Folosim Future Perfect pentru a exprima o actiune care va fi terminate inainte de un anumit
punct din viitor.

e.g. Voi fi plecat de acasa pana la ora 5.

I will have left home BY 5 o’clock

Time Markers:

 By (până)
 By the time (până pe vremea cand)

!!! Cum expresia BY THE TIME introduce o propoziție temporală ( WILL ), nu avem voie să
folosim WILL , ci doar PRESENT SIMPLE (-s/es) / PRESENT PERFECT (have/has +3rd /-ed).

e.g. Eu voi fi plecat de acasă1/ până mama va sosi de la muncă.2/

1. Main Clause=Prop. Principală

2. Temporal Clause=Prop. De Timp (în care nu avem voie să folosim WILL !!!)

e.g. I will have left home by the time mother arrives home.

7. FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS

a) to emphasise the duration of an action up to a certain time in the future

e.g. By the end of this week, she will have been working here for six years.

8. WILL YOU marry me ? = vrei tu…

9. TO BE TO = TO BE ABOUT TO

e.g. They are (about) to get married next week? = urmează, sunt pe cale să

10. SHALL I help you ? = să….
