PORTFOLIO / HOMEWORK GUIDELINES
SESSION 2020-21
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
The winter vacation homework has been planned keeping in view the age of the
students. All tasks are to be performed individually and independently by the
students. However, parents are requested to supervise their kids to ensure their
safety. Read the following instructions carefully before starting the homework:
 The learning portfolio/homework marks will carry some weightage in final exams
also, so please make sure to put in the required time and effort.
 The assignments of all subjects may please be maintained in a learning portfolio
with a separator for each subject.
 The institution’s name, student’s name, roll number and grade should be clearly
labelled on the learning portfolio.
 The winter vacation homework is worth of total 100 marks. The subjects English,
Urdu, Mathematics, Social Study, Computer Sciences and General Science carry
15 marks each, whereas the subject Islamiat carries 10 marks.
 The cover or title page of the portfolio is to be designed by students creatively
representing their own choices and preferences. They may paste, draw or colour
to make it more unique and attractive.
 The following points will be awarded over and above the total points:
i. Design and presentation of cover page 03
ii. Neatness and presentation 02
iii. Handwritten assignments 05

 The students may use loose sheets, notebooks or register to submit solved
learning portfolios. However, the solved file or copy may not exceed the following
dimensions:

13 inches: Vertical

11 inches: Horizontal
 The students may submit portfolios in printed form. However, extra points will be
awarded for hand written portfolios.
 All questions can be copied from the learning portfolio questionnaire in the
answer book or sheet before answering. However, tasks like puzzles and
pictures may be cut and pasted or drawn in the answer book before answering.
 The students are required to put date and day on daily basis.
 All pages must be numbered consecutively from the title page.
 Homework should be completed neatly and legibly.
 Make sure all tasks are done according to the given instructions and completed
on time.
 The hard copy of the winter vacation homework should be submitted on January
14th , 2020.
 Late or incomplete learning portfolios will not be entertained.

Note: These guidelines are meant to describe general homework practices.

Individual teachers are a source of more guidance and support. Please
contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

4. Two adjacent angles form a complementary relationship. One angle is twelve
more than twice the other angle. Draw a picture to represent the situation. Then

5. (a) At a brunch buffet, 93 people chose coffee for their beverage and 47
people chose juice. 25 people chose both coffee and juice. If each person chose at
least one of these beverages, find how many people visited the buffet using Venn
diagram?
(b) An advertising agency finds that, of its 170 clients, 115 use Television,
110 use Radio and 130 use Magazines. Also 85 use Television and Magazines, 75
use Television and Radio, 95 use Radio and Magazines, 70 use all the three. Draw
Venn diagram to represent these data. Also find: (03+03 Marks)

Note: Write a detailed report of each task including names of required

material/resources, procedures, observations, and conclusion/results. All tasks are to
be performed individually and independently. Parents are requested to supervise
their kids to ensure their safety.

1. As we know that the leaves of plants are waterproof due to cuticle. On the
same way, take some pieces of paper of leaf size and make them waterproof. After
completion, put half of these paper pieces in cold water and half in hot water. Do all
the pieces of paper remains waterproof? Explain your observations and results with
justifications. (5 marks)

2. Take small but equal amounts of water and milk in two different but similar
containers. Freeze them by putting in a refrigerator. Now melt them in the sunshine,
boil them on the same stove under the same conditions, and evaporate them
completely. Note their temperature and time during changing of their states. What
similarities and differences you find while changing the states of both of the
materials. Support your investigation results with time and temperature graph.
(5 marks)

3. The periodic table contains a lot of information in it. With the help of that
information calculate the number neutrons present in the non-metallic elements of
the periodic table. (5 marks)

4. Take a beaker with some water and place a lighted candle in standing
position in it. Now cover the candle with a test tube to cut off it air supply. For how
long does the candle keep on burning? How much water rises up in the test tube?
Why did it happen so? Explain with diagram. You can perform this experiment with
utensils available at your home in case of non availability of the beaker and test tube.

5. Have a look for heating and cooling processes at your home. Observe them
carefully to find that how the heat is being transferred in these processes. Make a
chart of any five such processes along with the mechanism of heat transfer in it. For
