Checks to complete when fitting 826213 on

Citroen and Peugeot applications.
Valeo Warranty has received 826213 clutch kits returned with the symptoms of “unable to select
gears” and “clutch drag” thus resulting in spline damage on the clutch friction plate and signs of
preload on the pressure plate. This TSB has several known issues to check when replacing the
clutch.

Correct Clutch Alignment

To reduce the risk of potential spline damage on

the friction plate please ensure the correct clutch
alignment tool is used during the course of
replacing the clutch assembly. Although the Valeo
kit is supplied with a plastic fitting aide, if fitment
becomes problematic please use an appropriate
centering tool as displayed in the image.

Replacing the Guide Tube

On this vehicle it should be common practice to

ensure the Guide Tube is replaced every time the
clutch assembly is replaced, otherwise this may
create excessive, premature preload wear to the
pressure plate fingers, causing difficulty in gear
selection / clutch judder issues etc. There is also a
high risk of gear oil being deposited onto the new
clutch if the seal is worn or damaged.

Checking the Release Arm

Check the integrity of the Release Arm;
specifically the plastic moulded ball socket that
pivots on the gearbox mounting, if damaged or
insecure this also could cause excessive,
SAT Clutch Technology
premature with shipping
preload wear spacer
to the pressure plate SAT Clutch Technology
fingers, resulting in difficulty in gear selection /
clutch judder issues – If in doubt replace this
part.

Checking the Release Mechanism

Please note it is important to keep the clutch
release arm and bearing pushed back towards
the transmission when installing the gearbox. It
is possible to inadvertently move the release
arm forward while trying to get the input shaft
of the transmission to line up with the clutch. If
the lever is moved forward enough, it will
misalign the bearing on the input shaft and not
be correctly allocated into the release arm. This
will be visible on the bearing and will result in
preload on the pressure plate fingers. Be
careful not to move the lever or cable tie the
release arm lever to the stand off for the clutch
slave cylinder to keep it in place prior to
installation. If this is not done it may require
the gearbox be lowered from the vehicle and
the release bearing be realigned.

Changing the Gearbox Oil

It is critical to ensure the correct gear oil that is specified by the manufacturer is used and changed
during every clutch change or this may result in false or incorrect symptoms when diagnosing faults
immediately following a clutch change.

Fitment of friction plate in clutch kit 826213 & 826211

Valeo Technical Support and the Warranty Claims Department are receiving a number of calls and
claims regarding the fitment of the friction plate in clutch kit 826213 & 826211.

In image 1 below you can see the layout of the clutch according to the Peugeot EPC system. As you can
see in image 2 this is a larger diagram of the friction plate which is clearly facing the cover and
therefore gearbox. You can see in image 2 that it matches image 4. The side with the numbers on it
where as the opposite side (image 3) does not. To conclude the side with numbers on the centre plate
is the side facing the gearbox.

Difference between Clutch Kits

A common query the Valeo Technical Hotline receive is regarding the bearings in Citroen and Peugeot clutch kits and
the bearing that is supplied with them. In most cases a clutch has already been supplied with the clutch cover and
friction plate matching the kit being replaced, but the bearing is incorrect.

Before supplying a clutch kit a quick check of the release mechanism will determine what clutch to supply. There are
two types of clutch mechanism used; a ‘hydraulic operated release mechanism’ and a ‘cable operated release
mechanism’.

Please use the information below to see clutch equivalents in hydraulic and cable operated release mechanisms.
