1.Identify several issues in the Philippines. What science- and technology –related policies could be
developed and implemented to solve these issues?

-An issue that the Philippines has been facing about Science and Technology (S&T) is lack of future
engineers, developers, inventors in the field of science. A lot of students find courses related to it hard
to pursue. Most of them would opt to take average courses in the sense that they are less costly and
they only require minimal requirements in finishing the course. The government cannot settle knowing
that the number of these future professionals is declining. Thus, Department of Science and Technology
pursued to provide deserving students financial aid and school allowance for them to be motivated to
finish and study the course despite of its complexity.

-Another issue related to S&T was the issue about the pros and cons of a vaccine called Dengvaxia. In
2017, the DOH has suspended its school-based vaccination program that used the said vaccine to avoid
dengue after they received reports that some children died allegedly due to it. Shortly afterwards, the
company which made the vaccine stated that the product posed higher risks to people without prior
dengue infection. This has alarmed the Filipinos citizens. They were threatened to take in any vaccine
and they completely lost their trust to the government. On the other hand, the authority has banned the
used and sale of dengvaxia and they are slowly getting the citizens trust back about vaccines to avoid
outbreak such as measles outbreak.

2. What can you say about the implementation of some science and technology policies and project in
the country?

-They are now cautious, precise, informative and helpful. They consider lives of people which are great.

3. What are the laws related to science and technology In the Philippines from the year 2000?

There are numerous laws that the legislation has mandated I improving the S&T of the Philippines. The
list of laws can be found on : https://dost.gov.ph/knowledge-resources/2014-04-27-01-59-53/republic-
acts.html (I only attached an online link that can direct you to the list of laws because it is lengthy.)

For an instance, an example of law implemented is Republic act no . 10055 “Philippine Technlogy
Transfer Act of 2009.” It is an act providing the framework and support system for the ownership
management, use, and commercialization of intellectual property generated from research and
development funded by the government for other purposes.

4. How are these laws implemented?

They are enforced and being looked after by rulers and if violated, the violator is punished with just and
equitable punishment.
1, Identify several Filipino Scientists

2. Research on their contributions in the field of science

3. Examine what made them pursue a career in science

4. Present the result of your work in class.

-I opted to present my findings on a table format thinking that it would be easier to comprehend.

3. Examine what made them pursue a career in science

` Every mentioned individual above was driven by their own purpose to pursue a career in the field of
science. They may have driven by the family pressure, educational background, hobbies, and so on. I
have just compacted these reasons because obviously they more of academic-related professional who
share their knowledge on future professionals like them. Those personalities were outmost driven by
their love to science. Their fondness to discover new things, to rebuild, to examine, and to prove that a
thing they see exists. It is matter of being in love with the profession they have got since they all
attained a doctoral degree which proved that they all intentionally excelled in this path.
