ABOUT JAKE

After starting his career on the frontlines of the healthcare

system as a nurse, Jake became tired of treating patients
for avoidable, life threatening illnesses, only to have them
return a few months later with the same problem. He
learned that a strategy is only 20% of what’s needed to
make changes and stay healthy when in actuality 80% of
your success is dependent on having the right mindset.

Since then, Jake decided to become a personal trainer and

success coach, teaching critical health and wellness practices
to top entrepreneurs. Now he speaks all over the nation and
works with small business owners, Fortune 500 CEOs, and
Tony Robbins’ Speakers on achieving their entrepreneur
vitality!
ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

Maintaining your physical wellbeing is a serious

investment. The biggest factors of exercise, nutrition, and
rest are hard enough to practice on a daily basis, given all
that you’re responsible for at work, with your family, and
in your community. For entrepreneurs though, it’s a whole
different story.

Who knows what your day is going to look like when you’re
running all the branches of your own business, traveling
regularly, and making new connections wherever possible.
Sacrifices often must be made, and they most commonly
come in the form of your health. So, what can you do? As
Jake Havron explains, it all comes down to the atoms that
make up your day—how you treat your body and your
brain in the tiny moments that don’t seem significant.
PRINCIPLE
Non-Negotiable: Your Morning Routine

The way you start your day has a massive impact on how
the rest of it will go. So keep in mind this one critical idea:
Your morning routine is YOUR morning routine. In other
words, don’t start it off by responding to texts, emails, or
even non-essential work calls. Start it off your way.

Think about when you’re at your most productive: What

is your energy level like? You’re probably in a lively,
enthusiastic state—energized, and definitely not tired or
sluggish. So, put yourself in that state deliberately. Jake
recommends Tony Robbins’ practice of jumping on a mini
trampoline every morning. Find some sort of movement
or activity that brightens you up and gets you excited for
the day. Others take a walk or do an entire workout each
morning. Every person’s activity will be unique.

Once you’ve established that energy, double down by

practicing active, healthful breathing. Fire breathing is a
technique that rapidly oxygenates your body and further
boosts your energy. The technique looks like this:

• Breathe in and through your nose, rapidly and sharply

• Breathe this way (in, out) 30 times in a row

• Once finished, take a deep breath

• Repeat two more times

Finally, finish your morning routine with gratitude and
visualization. First, yourself of the people and forces who
helped you reach your current state of achievement. It’s far
too easy to get caught up in the daily grind, and think too
much about yourself and your business, so set time aside
to be grateful. Then, set your mind on the future. Think
and FEEL what it will be like once you’ve hit your next big
milestone. Spend time doing nothing but painting those
vivid pictures of your ideal future in your mind.

Productivity Hacks

So, you’ve set your day on the right track with your perfect
morning routine. Now it’s time to make sure you’re getting
work done and actually moving the needle in your life.

Start by getting yourself a damn daily planner. A smaller

notebook for writing about your day is quintessential
—the benefits are many. First, the impact of extracting
something from your brain and into the real world via
writing gives it greater weight. For tasks and projects, you
now have something on paper, in the real world, holding
you accountable. Secondly, your planner is an instantly
accessible log of your progress over time. At any point, you
can use its contents as data to inspect your own progress
and productivity. Jake recommends writing your five most
important tasks each day, at minimum. And of course, your
most important “one thing” (as described in the book by
Gary Keller) for each day must be highlighted.
When you have your tasks established and organized, how
do you actually get your work done in a timely manner,
while performing your best? Simple: Work how the brain
prefers. See, your brain operates most effectively when
expending energy in increments of about 25 minutes. Take
advantage of the Pomodoro Technique, where you spend 25
minutes doing deep work, followed by 5 minutes of a break
of your choice. Follow this cycle through the day, and you’ll
not only complete those essential tasks, but they’ll be done
RIGHT.

For following the Pomodoro Technique, Jake recommends

Focus Keeper—and app available for free on smartphones.
No matter the task, telling yourself “Ok, I have 4 hours to
do this,” or “Ok, this is due Friday, so I should do a little
bit each day until then,” is a dangerous move. You’re leaving
yourself vulnerable to distraction. Set yourself a regular
timer for tasks, and you’ll have no problem remaining
focused!
Proper Posture

A lot of people want quick and immediate results for looking

and feeling better. That’s why you see so many products
advertising FAST solutions to eliminating fat, slimming
down, or gaining muscle. Unfortunately, actual improvements
take time. However, there is one category of physical wellness
that you can begin to fix instantaneously: Posture.

When it comes to your physical presence, others are

constantly being subconsciously influenced by the way you
carry yourself. Luckily, proper posture is something that
just about anyone can practice at any and all times of the
day. And for the purposes of automating this practice, Jake
recommends using the doorway drill: Every single time
you enter a doorway, check yourself. Make all the checks to
your posture, and right yourself on the spot. Every time you
go into a new room, anywhere. Soon enough it’ll become
second nature.

Here are the essentials to good posture:

• Chin upright, not tucked

• Chest slightly out, so your shoulders are back and your

upper back slightly flexed

• Knees aligned with your hips, glutes slightly flexed

• Toes pointing straight forward or slightly outward

• A smile doesn’t hurt either :)

Communication Hacks

Posture helps establish people’s first impression of you. The

moment you’ve walked into a room, they’re making those
micro-assessments of you as a person—before you’ve even
spoken to them! So, let’s talk about how you seal the deal,
leaving lasting impressions on others after you’ve actually
engaged with them.

The proper handshake is a convention studied over

generations. The simplest solution to impressing someone
with a handshake is to make web-to-web contact, grip
firmly, and hold for about 3 pumps. If you want to
really demonstrate your sincerity, you might even try the
presidential handshake, where you place your left hand on
top during the shake—but make sure to read the situation
when going above and beyond like this!

Then, there’s your body language during conversation. If

you’re looking to develop a strong, trusting relationship
with someone, make sure to exhibit openness. This is
achieved mostly through your hands and arms, and can be
seen by speakers who excel at selling from the stage. Your
arms should be expressive though under control, with your
palms generally up. Don’t be stiff or closed off, or people
will quickly become suspicious of your trustworthiness.
Also, when talking one on one, try to maintain eye contact
for about 70% of the time. This is of course a tough
tightrope to walk, but much more than that and you’ll be
making others uncomfortable.
