II. Concept Notes, Lesson 1

Noting Details is a reading comprehension skill that involves picking out, from a piece of
text, the particular piece or pieces of information to achieve a given purpose. It is one of
the advanced skills that a good reader possesses. This skill enables the reader to fully
understand a certain text and helps to unlock the questions he/she has before, during,
and after reading.

How to note details?

1. Always read the story with full understanding and internalize the lines printed.
2. Jot down notes or highlight texts. You will know that you’re doing the right thing when the
things you’ve taken down describe the main idea and the supporting ideas.

Informational Text is nonfiction writing, written with the intention of informing the
reader about a specific topic. It is typically found in magazines, science and autobiography
and history books. Its primary purpose is to inform the reader about the natural or social
world.
