Zara
: Lil Zara is a Namibian born artist who does
music in two countries: Namibia and South
Africa. The talented artist has just released his
much anticipated 6 songs EP feat. The likes of
Emtee, Young Qing and many other gifted
artists. He brings a new fresh and interesting
sound. The EP has a diverse sound that caters
for everyone, from hip hop, trap soul to RnB.
Who has the greatest influence on you in the
music industry?
> The greatest people who have a huge impact
on me musically are mainly The Dogg from
Namibia and Tory Lanez from Canada who is a
hip-hop artist based in America.
They both have a different taste of music and
but very similar. One thing I love about them is
that they barely follow music rules like me
What is behind your music, any particular
message that you try to bring to the world?
>the message behind my music is spreading
love, motivating the youth and every hustler
out there trying to make it big in whatever they
are fully focused on and wanting to achieve. I
make music for everyone to enjoy and there for
I think I speak more to a greater audience
especially emotionally.
How do you handle the society's judgments in
line with music e.g. artists are likely to be
alcoholic, drug dealers etc. those type of
judgments?
> I think in the modern world Musician are
mostly judged according to their character and
their music personal, If you carry yourself as a
professional and ethical musician people can
still make judgment of you based of things they
see or hear. Some people will hate you and
create fake stories about you which are very
false and bias that’s in regards to being a drug
abuser or alcohol abuser.
Musician like myself we go through a lot of ups
and downs moments because we always lack,
be it financially or self-belief. There is a lot of
competition out there and with a lack of
resources we always opt to follow certain toxic
things such as drugs and alcohol to run away
from our problems which in return does not
solve anything but create more disaster for us
as Creators. A lot of big brands don’t t like to
associate themselves with artists who are
known to abusing substances such as drugs etc.,
so as Musician we must really be careful when
it comes to such and behave accordingly
How have you tried to expose/spread your
music with passion?
The old way to handle all this is stay true to
yourself, learn to face your problems and know
the wrongs around you and avoid being with
the wrong crowd of people that associate in
drugs and excess alcohol
What makes one an 'icon' in the music
industry?
>I am so much into my social media as a way to
keep myself up to date with my fans and
sharing my music on the internet.
I actually have a very strategic way of marketing
my music on social media which cost me zero
but very affective with high numbers of streams
each month. Outstanding Music is well and fast
spread when it’s good like my music.
What makes one an 'icon' in the music
industry?
>so far I am not an icon yet but a building icon.
What makes me great for an upcoming artist it’s
that I have worked with industry giants across
Africa. Be it in South Africa, Nigeria or Namibia.
I have worked with Emtee from South Africa
who is one of the best hip-hop artist of all time
in South Africa for the new generation.
Am also considering myself an icon soon
because am dropping a big 3 track EP this
December with the likes of Kpillest, yessonia
and Top Cheri from Namibia and my super
talented brother from Nigeria Kenas Davinci,
this are all super talented artist who have beat
all odds and won awards
What are the challenges you face in the music
industry?
>Challenges are mostly lack of funds and lack of
sponsorship deals which enables me to do
bigger things in the industry. Let’s not forget
lack of gigs this year especially because of Covid
19 situation. Hopefully next year is going to be a
bigger and brighter year for me as a musician
and my music career going forward
Any song by you that you would dedicate to
young people
>I would love to dedicate a song called Dreams
ft. Young Qing, which is track number 3 on the
EP. I wrote this song when I was in a depression
state and everything was falling to ground in my
life but this song motivated me and it carried
me through from day to day activities. The song
speaks about youth empowerment, constant
hustling and not giving up no matter how many
doors are shut in front of you. It also speaks of
how I would love to see all my family and
friends win and are on board when I reach the
level of success I dream about and speak of
highly.

It speaks of love and positivity. I love good
energy and this song is my favorite on the EP.
It has that African love combination of Namibia,
Nigeria and South Africa. Very Well put
together by the entire phenomenal artists who
have worked their heart out to give this project
a gold bar of a hit song. We recently dropped
the music video on YouTube and its doing quite
well, do check it out.
What advice would you give to young people
out there who want to feature in the music
industry but are less confidential?
>my music inspires and speaks directly to the
soul. My music is for all ages which are very rare
to find especially when a young artist is involved
and the composer. My music is also totally
different because it’s a new sound that either
hip-hop or RNB have heard of before.
Start today and don’t be shy. The more you
record and create the better you become and
the more confidence you build for yourself and
your brand. I say stop saying I wish or I will do
that tomorrow rather just do it today. There is
power in Failure. Failure is a powerful tool to
success and self-empowerment

VALENTINE
A VALENTINE WISH
It is a beautiful day, what could go wrong! The
beautiful bride Kunashe is all smiles as she walks
down the aisle, her heart filled with so much joy
because she is about to experience her happily
ever after with her handsome groom. All of a
sudden Kunashe cannot move, she feels weak
and wonders if it’s because of the dazzling smile
that her husband to be is giving her. Her sister
Rue grabs her hand, but is overpowered by
Kunashe’s weight. Kunashe falls down and
everything goes black, whilst she hears her sister
yelling her name.
RUE: Kunasheeee….wake up sleepyhead
KUNASHE: what!! Oh no [she screams] I need to
sleep again, I have to ask him his name.
RUE: what are you talking about?
KUNASHE: the groom, I was getting married, oh
my gosh his smile
RUE: news flash, I am the one getting married
dear sis, so wake up, I need your help, and I can’t
decide what to wear tomorrow, for my lobola
day
KUNASHE: you’re such a kill joy, geez, you’re
only 20 freaking years old and already getting
married, and I’m…
RUE: you will meet your Mr. Right and get
married, you’re only 27
KUNASHE: says the 20 year old bride to be
RUE: I have had enough, stop being jealous and
try to be a bit supportive
KUNASHE: you shouldn’t have woken me up
from my beautiful dream, I was getting married,
a beautiful wedding it was, how I wish I meet
him before Valentine.
RUE: Amen may we go now; I need your help in
the kitchen also and… (She realizes Kunashe is

KUNASHE: my chest, I …..[She collapses]
RUE: oh come on; stop being an attention
seeker…Kunashe I'm talking to you… (She panics
when she realizes that Kunashe is not
responding) muuuuum, daaaad hello
A few hours later Kunashe wakes up, and doesn't
recognize where she is, she panics when she sees
the doctors and nurses attending her wearing
their protective gear. The Doctor informs her
that her family tested negative to Covid 19 and
were encouraged to self-isolate, and he
encourages her not to stress herself because she
has the virus.
KUNASHE: I am going to die (she sobs and the
nurse tries to calm her whilst the doctor checks
her oxygen saturation)
DOCTOR RAY : (Clears his throat) if you focus on
being better you will be out in 2 weeks time, and
your family said I should inform you that your
sister's wedding will be postponed, it will be held
on the 14th of February.
KUNASHE : (she covers her face with her hands)
that’s on valentine’s day, and it will be my
birthday as well, oh no, (pauses) and my uncles
and aunts will nag me all day long about being
overweight and not having a boyfriend, I wish I
had a date for my birthday, for valentines, for
Rue’s wedding.
DOCTOR RAY: if you focus on being better, I will
be your date
KUNASHE: what you’re kidding right...
DOCTOR RAY: anything for a patient to get
better it’s a promise. [Kunashe smiles]….so I
asked the nurse to bring you some novels to
read, I hope you love literature Shakespeare, I
have a lot of them in my office.
KUNASHE: yes oh my I've read Romeo and Juliet
countless times, and I also love the author Louise
Bagshawe, and Julia Quinn, I was also reading
Bridgerton, I had to read the novel before
watching the series.
DOCTOR RAY : I bought my sister those novels, I
happen to be a hopeless romantic like you, so
instead of gifting her I started to read them all,
and I think I have Bridgerton it's a soft copy
though, I will bring it to you.
KUNASHE: who are you?
DOCTOR RAY: I am your doctor Miss Kunashe,
are you having some kind of amnesia…… [They
both laugh]
KUNASHE: you’re a good doctor indeed; I mean
you're being way extra nice.
DOCTOR RAY: thank you my lady, you make sure
you keep on being a good patient (pauses) you
can call me Ray.... (Kunashe smiles) we don’t put
TV’s in the ICU but for you, since you’re awake
now and since we can't move you to the other
wards because they’re full, you can make use of
this (he hands over his iPod)….I hope you will
love my taste of music.
KUNASHE: are you always this nice to every
patient.
NURSE: today he is being extra nice…… [Kunashe
and Doctor Ray both laugh, when they realize
the nurse was standing behind them all this
while].
Doctor Ray kept Kunashe Company all-night, and
they grew fond of each other. She longed to see
his face but talks herself out of it as she tries to
remind herself that he is just doing his job. She
finally goes home but with a broken heart,
because she didn't see Ray. On the day of her
sister's wedding, the negotiations are done
virtually due to the pandemic, and Kunashe is
somehow glad that no relative is there to nag her
about getting married too. As the lobola
negotiations progress, Kunashe hears a knock on
the door, and goes to open and see who it is, the
visitor removes his mask and smiles, his hands
holding a bunch of red roses and chocolates.
Kunashe looks confused and pinches herself
because the man who was her groom in her
dream is the same man standing before her, with
also a little banner written, "Will you be my
Valentine?" forever.
DOCTOR RAY : Hey...(smiles) say something
please...( Kunashe gasps as she realize It’s Doctor
Ray, she jumps into his arms and whispers YES
they hug each other tightly.)

So my real name is Wencelacy Kudzayi Katuka-aka Kadem the Comic,aka Captain Tito (in Special
Class)I’m the CEO at Simuka Comedy, which is an organization that grooms, nurtures and promotes
comedy talent with a goal of creating a sustainable comedy industry in Zimbabwe. I’m a UZ accounting
graduate who also pursued Internal Auditing.

comedy industry?
Kadem The Comic: I have always been a funny
person around friends and seeing people smile
and laugh is therapeutic but I guess I really like
talking too because my mum claimed that I
even started talking before I started walking. At
first I didn’t know we had stand-up comedy in
Zimbabwe until I did my research and found the
likes of Doc Vikela, Carl Joshua Ncube, Michael
K, Ntando Van Moyo, and Clive Chigubu who
are also hard hitters in the Zim Comedy scene

Kadem The Comic: Locally, Doc Vikela inspires
me the most...he is a friend and brother of mine
too...we work together at Simuka Comedy but
there always something new you can learn from
him. Internationally I would pick Chris Rock....he
looks cool...and I like his way of writing. Above
all my Dad is my greatest inspiration, I have
never seen him fight with my Mum and he is a
hard worker who literally works hard to take
care of us

in the industry?
Kadem the Comic: Stand-up comedy is not yet
really known by the masses of Zimbabwe but
thanks to online platforms and television
comedians can now be seen and it’s an industry
that is growing quick.
Our challenge is that there are a few female
comedians who would want to try out comedy
and take it as a full time career.
However, at Simuka Comedy we have a free
comedy 13 week class that we run to groom,
train and nurture aspiring comedians and we
really encourage females to try this out as we
have the likes of Munya, Gonyeti, Maggie and
Tanya who are also making a living through
comedy
|| Khaya ||: How do you handle
stigma/judgments from the negative society -
hatred and jealousy related?
Kadem The Comic: Sometimes as an artist you
need to know that various people have various
taste and likes...Some people may like your
comedy but some may not…The quicker you
learn that the more easy it is to handle negative
comments. However, there are some people
who comment negatively for no reason, you
just need to take the good criticism and ignore
any negative energy that some people may
throw. If you feel anyone sending bad vibes,
don’t even respond to their comments.
You can’t please anyone in life...so you just
need to critically take feedback without
Tirelessly working to ensure this industry grows and be sustainable.

Kadem the Comic: Comedy is not just a stress
relief to the audience, but it’s also therapeutic
to me as a comedian too as I get a chance to
talk about my life stories. The love of the art
also keeps me pushing.
|| Khaya ||: How does it benefit you
individually?
Kadem The Comic: Most of the time I do a show
I get paid so for starters that’s how I benefit
individually. Over the financial benefits the
Simuka Comedy team is a dedicated and fun
team to work around....Being at the office
doesn’t seem like work because we are always
in stitches. I have managed to grow as an Artist
since I started in 2014. I started as a stand-up
comedian but I have grown to be an actor
(Captain Tito in Special Class), a sketch
comedian and also released my debut music
album dubbed #PrataPrata in November 2019.

production individually hence we all need to
work together to push a certain goal. I would

show organizers and promoters across the

young people who want to pursue their

Kadem the Comic: As long as you feel you have
the talent, go for it don’t hesitate. A journey of
a thousand miles begins with a single step and
one after the other .Don’t be too quick to look
for fame, rather grow your act 1st and
everything will fall in place. Research and Learn,
because there’s nothing new under the sun. Get
better and keep putting in the effort in your Art
and you will eventually get there

My country Namibia serves one of the most
creative talents and a wide range of
confident individuals and as a quote by
unknown says " A few can touch the magic
string and noisy fame is proud to win them;
Alas for those that never sing but, die with
all their music in them."
My name is Magano Nekongo. I am 16
years old and I grew up with a passion of
becoming famous from a very young age.
I started my YouTube channel about
relatable vines with the same mindset from
my childhood but along the way after I saw
that many people loved me for me and the
content I created, I realized that I had the
wrong mindset because it had led me into
doing things just for more attention and
attraction which did not reflect too well. I
started engaging more with my supporters
who helped me mentally and emotionally to
keep going and growing.
As a Namibian you tuber I started searching
up more Namibian YouTubers to learn more
about my country through their content and
lifestyle. It was unfortunate to see that there
is about only 2% of my age group creating
content on YouTube. It is also unfortunate to
see how as Namibians suffer growing on
this platform due to the struggle of being
exposed and being supported with consistent
supporters.
After analyzing all this information I finally
knew my reason to why I wanted to still
continue with my young journey.
I created funny content because I wanted to
prove that even in our teen phases we can
still do these type of things and I love
putting a smile on people's faces on a daily
basis, so if I can do that through my videos,
it's a win/win for both of us.
I also grew the ambition of wanting to help
others grow and be exposed successfully and
take part in activities that will better our
country.
Furthermore I am still on my journey on
growing my channel and social media
platforms. I really know how it feels to want
someone successful help expose and Guide
you, so if I can grow and help someone one
day I will be very proud of myself and my
country.
Many of my peers have looked at me
insisting that I will not make it, but with this
whole virus that had the world in a
pandemic, I have seen that life is short and
anything is possible. So starting now and
growing successfully with time is better than
not starting at all.

don’t do drugs, I don’t smoke, I don’t drink but
there was a time when I faced some judgments
about my hairstyles and dressing and about
drugs and alcohol, I actually encourage those
who abuse drugs and alcohol to stop for it is
harmful to their health along other reasons.

Interviewer: What challenges have you faced

so far?
 Ever since I was a girl, I always liked music. I was
always listening to music and singing other
people's songs. I lip-synced and joined music
competitions. That has been in me, for a long
time. Then came a time I met Max Sprinter and
he motivated me. He eventually took me to the
studio. That's when it all began.

Since you started your passion in music, how

did you manage life as a musician and school as
well?

ARTIST: MILLZ MILLION In all that I did I had time for everything, I had
time for school I had time for music and I just
had time. I really write music. I don't sit down
and dedicate my time for songwriting. The thing
with my love for music is that no matter what I
am doing I am just in the zone for music.
Whether I am doing the dishes or doing my
school work lyrics just pop into my head. Once
that happened I find somewhere to record.
Along that complex of being at school and
managing what I love I first finish my school
work then continue with my music. That is the
same thing with my studio sessions; they are
reserved for the weekend.

into music?
I have composed about 21 songs. The only Craig

Hospital and grew up in *Checheche* growth point....Am mostly interested in acting, I can also sing at
the same time I have a dream of becoming a model. I have got a bunch of songs that I have written so

was that I could stand in front of the mirror taking it as if the people were in the mirror......It is funny
though but it helped me because I would become nervous when I stood in front of people.....There are

My name is Chidochashe Mercia Kawonza. I'm the last born in a family of 3 children. I was born on the
7th of July in the year 2003.I was born and bred and still live in Bindura. I started singing when I was very
young. My mom always told me how l sang about everything. I started getting serious with singing in
2020 during the first Covid 19 lockdown. So far l have only recorded and released 2 songs with no
specific genre and I am looking forward to releasing more. I'm still struggling to find myself... like the

My name is Ngeje Eyonda Kavita. I’m
a 16 year old aspiring Namibian you
Tuber and public speaker. Being in
front of a crowd has not always been
my first option, being that I had
struggled with confidence all my life.
The journey to finding my voice
started in grade 7 when I began
writing my own long pieces for fun, I
had always had a passion for the
English language, if it was poetry,
novels or even old comic books. I just
loved it all especially when it came to
orals in the classroom, I was always
was the one to deliver a speech.
During my first year in high school I
joined the school’s debate team then
after few months led to me joining
the public speaking team too, turns
out I was a natural. I have been doing
it for 3 years now and I love every bit
of it especially the competitions. I
took part in a couple of writing
competitions and had a victory when
I won one, back in 2018 coming in 2nd
place. I’m proud to say confidence is
my middle name now.
During the Lockdown that took place
the year 2020, after tremendous
thinking I got the courage to start a
personal YouTube channel. It hasn’t
been easy at all especially being a
teenager with limited resources but I
did it anyways because I’m driven to
doing what I love.
I decided to be professional and
name my channel basically something
simple so I choose to name it Eyonda
Kavita, my second and last name. I
post anything that I find entertaining,
interesting and helpful. My advice to
anyone that want to take such a big
step putting yourself out there. DO IT
NOW. You are young and you got so
much potential to grow into, it takes
hard work, perseverance and
determination but it’s worth it at the
end of every day.
As for me I got a long way to go and a
lot to accomplish, I’m always seeking

Artist Biography: Born in Ruwa, Harare (Zimbabwe), Liberty Simango socially known as Slae Lee
(ZimPapi).The 19 years old artist started his musical career in 2013 with a group of three titled "The
Eagles" which was based on Dancehall music only.
So the journey all along the artist wasn't that into music till he met with his childhood friends ,T-Fire and
Bc-Skies back then in January 2020 that's when Slae Lee dropped a track titled "Grindtym" and I'm sure
the track blew but the social platforms were down because there was still poor marketing. The artist
took a pause for about 9 months without even dropping a track, afterwards he then dropped a track
titled "Hameno" which is a Shona name that means Whatever, with that movement of Slae Lee it's a
quick announcement to you that he is now working on his new EP titled "Sparta" which is going to be
officially released in February. I do accept that I'm still in the trenches but one day is a day and l does
believe that l will make it someday" said Slae Lee.

Slae Lee is also leading a campaign called "Youth's Call By Slae Lee" were all local artistes are gathering

1. We are not in a competition, many of us feel
pressured to be in a relationship coz all my
friends are dating and I should be in one...that is
a recipe for disaster.
2. You are not a mechanic, don't get in a

Now personally I love food... You ooh guys...I
am the captain of "Food is bae" team but I
really don't base what I love with my
expectations when it comes to love...coz once a
guy knows that this girl loves food, he can do
anything and then come cheer me up with
food...guys are very manipulative. So my point
here is that, if you have some sort of weakness
be in a state where you are able to take control
your weakness before you engage in
