About our Team The School of Engineering & Physical Sciences delivers teaching across 6 programmes:
Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry; Physics; Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering Chemical
Engineering, and Biosciences. In the 2019 Guardian League Table, Mechanical Engineering was ranked first in
Scotland and eighth in the UK. The results come as the University is undertaking a significant programme of
investment to enhance student-facing services. These include the alteration and refurbishment of the James
Watt Centre into a modern state of the art learning and teaching facility, the modernization of the Student
Services Centre, the development of a training room for Assistive Technology and a £6M refurbishment
project for the library. In addition, the University has invested £19M in a new Discovery and Innovation
Centre with a focus on innovative teaching for students in EPS and in Mathematics and Computer Science.

staff from different backgrounds. Detailed Description We are looking for a talented and highly motivated
individual to join our teaching activities in the Mechanical Engineering discipline of the School of
Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) You will deliver and assess courses in Mechanical Engineering in a
number of programmes including Design & Manufacturing, Computers in Manufacturing & Operations and
Production Management on campus and will collaborate with colleagues in our off campus programmes.
The role will also include academic administration and course development and enhancement as required.

teaching (lectures, tutorials and practicals) of up to 4 courses equivalent and undertake assessment of
coursework and examinations under the supervision of senior academic staff member. The role holder will
also undertake basic administrative duties associated with the teaching programmes. The Role Holder will be
required to register as a University teacher. Education, qualifications and experience A first degree in
Mechanical Engineering or cognate discipline essential, with an MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or
cognate discipline desirable. Essential Criteria – Experience of undergraduate teaching in Mechanical
Engineering or cognate discipline. Experienced in Design & Manufacturing, Computers in manufacturing
and/or Operations and Production Management Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to
prepare clearly written and presented learning and teaching materials Ability to engage with students in the
delivery of lectures and tutorials. Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work collaboratively with
colleagues Excellent team working and communication skills Ability to work to deadlines Experience of using
Microsoft Word and PowerPoint Desirable Criteria Experience in the preparation and delivery of lectures,
tutorials and virtual learning environment platforms. Experience in Industrial design and engineering,
Computer Measurement Machines, Machine tools, Mechatronics and/or Process and logic control Familiarity
with learning management software such as Blackboard, or equivalent. Experience of providing academic
support to student groups. Experience in web-based learning. Experience of the Energy Sector through
research, employment or teaching.
