I. SYNOPSIS OF THE FILM

According to Lino (2019)Miracle in Cell No. 7 is a South Korean drama film

released in 2013, about a mentally challenged man who was wrongly imprisoned for a

crime he did not commit. The film explored his attempt to live his life in prison while

keeping his ties with his daughter. Six years after the Korean film’s release, an

adaptation made its way to the Philippines, giving us the same heart-shattering story

CHARACTERS & CHARACTERIZATION

 Lee Yong Goo- is a mentally impaired man with the intellect of a six-year-

old.

 Yesung- the daughter of a mentally impaired man, Lee Yong Goo

 So Yang Ho- leaders of the prisoner

 Choi Choon-Ho- a prisoner

 Shin Bong-Sik- a prisoner

 Man-Bum- a prisoner

 Old man Seo- a prisoner

 Jang Min-Hwan- policer officer who adapted Yesung

II. BACKGROUND OF THE WRITER/ DIRECTOR

Lee Hwan-Kyung (born 1970) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Lee

debuted with He Was Cool (2004). His next two features, Lump Sugar (2006)

revolves around Si-eun who dreams of becoming a jockey and Champ (2011), which

is based on a true story, depicts the relationship between a recently injured racehorse

and the jockey who is gradually losing his eyesight. His fourth feature Miracle in Cell

No. 7 (2013) became the biggest hit of the year with more than 12.32 million viewers.

ACHIEVEMENTS

According to Go Director LEE Hwan-gyeong, who is known for his emotional and tight

production, returns to the big screen. He is a director who has proven his capabilities in his

previous work that received recognition in both artistic and commercial terms. LEE made his

feature debut with He Was Cool in 2004. His next two features, Lump of Sugar (2006) and

Champ (2011), both took place in the equestrian world. However, it was his fourth film that

launched him to greater heights. Miracle in Cell No. 7, released early in 2013, became the

biggest hit of the year, reaching as far as third on the all time chart for Korean films by the end of

its run.

III. LITERARY APPROACH

We believe that sociology is the most appropriate approach in this movie

because it comprises their strong relationship with each other even if the father is

mentally impaired man. Sociology is a study of society, patterns of social

relationships, social interaction and culture of everyday life. It is a social science

that uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to

develop a body of knowledge about social order, acceptance, and change or social

evolution. Sociology is also defined as the general science of society.

IV. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The following will be addressed;

1. How did the event affect Yesung, the daughter of Yong Goo?

2. Why is it entitled miracle cell in no. 7?

V. ARGUMENTS & DISCUSSION

1. Yesung is the daughter of Yong Goo, a mentally impaired man who acts like

a 6 years old. Yesung is an intelligent, good-looking girl. Yesung

experienced not having a father for many years since her father was in

prison. She analyzes and understand the case of her father even if shes only a

little girl because as what Ive said she is intelligent. She knows that her

father is only forced to admit the crime that he did not even commit. So as

time passes by due to the event that happen to her father she strives her best

to study and successfully she became a lawyer, not just a lawyer but a

lawyer of her father.

2. The movie or film is entitled Miracle cell in no. 7 because simply Lee Yong

Goo, So Yang Ho, Choi Choon-Ho, Shin Bong-Sik, Man-Bum and Old man

Seo’s jail is in the cell no 7. In the cell no. 7 were they have known each

other, were they have known the real story behind the crime he did not even

commit.

VI. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS

Miracle in Cell No. 7 is a South Korean drama film released in 2013, about a

mentally challenged man who was wrongly imprisoned for a crime he did not

commit. The film Miracle cell in no 7 is directed and written by Lee Hwan-Kyung

(born 1970) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. We believe that sociology is

the most appropriate approach in this movie because it comprises their strong relationship

with each other even if the father is mentally impaired man.
