TESLA SERVICES COMMISSIONING PROTOCOL

This document describes the scope of work to be completed by Tesla Services in order to
commission a Powerpack System 2.0 or Powerpack System 1.5. System validation is
required prior to system turnover.

NOTE: Commissioning requires the Tesla Services team to perform test charging and
discharging of the system. If there are restricted times or conditions when this can occur, please
notify the Tesla Project Engineer assigned to your project.

The order of events for a site is as follows:

1. Installation Contractor: The designated contractor transports all components to the site
and physically installs the Powerpack System, including positioning, cabinet anchoring,
conduit wiring, wiring to all terminals, and site cleanup. Track completion on the Tesla-
provided Construction Completion Checklist.

2. Site Manager: At least two weeks before the desired startup date, the site’s manager
must schedule an on-site commissioning request with Tesla. The final date of onsite
commissioning for a site will be scheduled on the Monday of the requested week. For
Grid Interactive or Microgrid sites, the on-site commissioning request must be scheduled
at least four weeks before the desired startup date.

NOTE: If full power charge or discharge will create a peak onsite or trigger export,
please specify a limit when requesting the onsite commissioning visit.

3. Site Manager: At least three business days before the desired startup date: the site
manager must submit the completed Construction Completion Checklist to
powerpacksupport@teslamotors.com to show that Tesla can perform remote
communications testing. Failure to submit a completed checklist will result in
rescheduling to the next available week. For Grid Interactive or Microgrid sites, the
completed construction checklist must be submitted two weeks before the desired
commissioning date.

NOTE: Remote communications testing can only happen if the site manager energizes
the site as listed in the Construction Completion Checklist. This allows for remote
updates and reduces the time needed at the site itself. Leave the DC disconnect on the
front of the inverter open, to prevent Powerpacks from moving power before
commissioning. Make sure the following components are energized:
• Powerpack Inverter (upstream breaker closed)
• Powerpack Controller
• Battery Meter

4. Tesla or a Tesla approved contractor: Performs final commissioning and test startup of
the Powerpack System.
5. Site Manager: Countersigns the signed Commissioning Completion Form when Tesla or
a Tesla approved contractor has completed final commissioning.

NOTE: Powerpack Units ship with a 25% State of Charge (SoC). If units are expected to sit for
longer than 12 months between shipment and installation, the site manager must contact Tesla

at Powerpacksupport@tesla.com to arrange for manual re-charging of any units that are
approaching minimum SoC. Failure to recharge within 12 months can damage the hardware
and would void the warranty, as described in the Limited Warranty.

ONSITE COMMISSIONING
The following scope requires approximately 16 hours per inverter block. Only Tesla Services or
a Tesla approved contractor must perform the steps outlined in the procedure below. The exact
order and scope of some tests may vary depending on site conditions and configuration.

1. De-energize the system for a full visual inspection of all mechanical and electrical
connections.
2. Re-energize the system.
3. Test communication between all components:
a. Powerpack Controller to Meter(s)
b. Powerpack Controller to Powerpack Inverter
c. Powerpack Inverter to Powerpack Units
d. Powerpack Controller to Tesla Server
4. Update system firmware for all blocks, ensuring that the latest version is running.
5. Perform basic functional testing, including charge and discharge functions, controller
data verification, and thermal system verification.

Due to the increased complexity, Grid Interactive or Microgrid sites require additional
commissioning. Contact Tesla for details.

SYSTEM VALIDATION
Remote functional testing requires cycling the system for approximately 1 week prior to system
turnover. The total time of the test depends on the rate of the charge/discharge period.

The main objectives for system validation are to ensure:

• All Pods are operating and can successfully transition into the active state
• The Powerpack System can follow commands
• Review charge and discharge behavior
• For sites with limits, set site minimum and maximum parameters and review that the
system is obeying them

The default testing cycle is as follows:

1. Charge the Powerpack System to 100% SOE at full power.
2. Pause period: Allow the system to idle in the online state.
3. Discharge the system to 50% SOE at full power.
4. Run charge/discharge commands:
a. 100kW for 10 seconds.
b. -100kW for 10 seconds.
c. Pause periods with zero commands.
d. Commands are offset so that the energy within a 15 minute period averages to
zero.
e. Repeat steps a through d for one hour.
5. Discharge system to 0% SOE.
6. Pause period: Allow the system to idle in the online state.
7. Charge system to 80% SOE.

Grid Interactive or Microgrid sites are also functionally validated to confirm the following:
• Confirm Grid Interactive functionality (if applicable)
o Transition to on-grid
o Transition to off-grid
• Confirm off-grid functionality
o Confirm startup and shutdown
o Confirm interaction with off-grid systems and equipment
