Call to Worship
Grace and peace in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We gather today in the
sure and certain hope of the resurrection, to give thanks to God for the life of
Richard Jay Krenek. Known to each of us in many different ways, as: Rick, a
husband, father, grandfather, an elder, a deacon, a leader, and as a friend. We
come to seek the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and to proclaim the good news of
eternal life in Jesus Christ.
For as many of you were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
In his baptism, Richard was clothed with Christ; in the day of Christ’s coming, he
shall be clothed in glory.
Psalm 124:8
One: Our help is in the name of the Lord,
All: Maker of Heaven and earth.
Matthew 11:28
One: Jesus Said: Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy
burdens, and I will give you rest.
Psalm 103:13; Isaiah 66:13
One: As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion
for those who fear God.
All: As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you, says the Lord.
Gathering Prayer Unison
Eternal God, We bless you for the great company of all those who have kept
the faith, finished their race, and who now rest from their labor. We praise
you for those dear to us whom we name in our hearts before you. Especially
we thank you for Richard whom you have now received into your presence.
Help us to believe where we have not seen, trusting you to lead us through
our years. Bring us at last with all your saints into the joy of your home,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Hymn
To God Be the Glory
To God be the glory, great things He hath done!
So, loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the lifegate that all may go in. (refrain)

Refrain
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory:
Great things he hath done!

Great things He hath taught us, great things he hath done,

And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. (refrain)

Hymn
Here I Am, Lord
I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in deepest sin My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Refrain
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,

I have borne My people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them. Whom shall I send?

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them, My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them, Whom shall I send?

Reading from the Psalms
Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green
pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth
me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod
and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence
of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely
goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the
house of the LORD forever.1

Reading from the Old Testament

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2 a
time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is
planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to
build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to
dance; 5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time
to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to
lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; 7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a
time for war, and a time for peace. 9 What gain have the workers from their toil?
10 I have seen the business that God has given to everyone to be busy with. 11 He
has made everything suitable for its time; moreover he has put a sense of past
and future into their minds, yet they cannot find out what God has done from the
beginning to the end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for them than to be

Version., Ps 23:1–6). Bellingham, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.

happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live; 13 moreover, it is God’s gift that
all should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil. 14 I know that whatever
God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it;
God has done this, so that all should stand in awe before him. 15 That which is,
already has been; that which is to be, already is; and God seeks out what has
gone by. The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version. (1989). (Ec 3:1–15). Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers.

You’ll Never Walk Alone
Reading from the Gospel
John 3:1-17
Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. 2 He came to
Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has
come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence
of God.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom
of God without being born from above.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can
anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the
mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can
enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. 6 What is born of
the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be astonished that
I said to you, ‘You must be born from above.’ 8 The wind blows where it chooses,
and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it
goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9 Nicodemus said to him,
“How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you a teacher of Israel,
and yet you do not understand these things? 11 “Very truly, I tell you, we speak of
what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our
testimony. 12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how
can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into
heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. 14 And just
as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted
up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved
7
the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not
perish but may have eternal life. 17 “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the
world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through
him. The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version. (1989). (Jn 3:1–17). Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers.

For God So Loved…

Hymn
Amazing Grace
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,

I have already come;
‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,

His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.

8
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
* The Lord’s Prayer
* Commendation
You only are immortal, the creator and maker of all. We are mortal,
formed of the earth, and to earth we shall return.
This you ordained when you created us saying, “you are dust and
to dust you shall return.” All of us go down to the dust; yet even at
the grave we make our song: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
Give rest, O Christ to your servant with all your saints, where there
is neither pain, nor sorrow, nor sighing, but life everlasting.
Holy God,
By your creative power you gave us life, and in Your redeeming
love you have given us new life in Christ.
We commend your son, Richard “Rick” Krenek to be received
into the church triumphant and into your merciful care in the faith
of Christ our Lord who died and rose again to save us, and who
now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now
and forever. Amen.

Sentences of Scripture
John 11:25-26
I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord. Those who believe
in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and
believes in me will never die.
Revelation 1:17-18, John 14:9
Jesus says: Do not be afraid, I am the first and the last, and the
living one. I was dead, and behold, I am alive for forever and ever.
Because I live, you also will live.
Romans 14:8
One: If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die we die to the Lord;
All: so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the
Lord’s.
In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life, through
our Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to almighty God,
Richard Jay Krenek, Rick
and we commit his body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to
ashes, dust to dust.
Prayer
O Lord, support us all the day long until the shadows lengthen and
the evening comes and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of
life is over, and our work is done. Then in your mercy, grant us a
11
safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last, through Jesus
Christ our Lord,
Praying this in the prayer, he taught us to pray:
The Lord’s Prayer
You are immortal, the creator and maker of all. We are mortal,
formed of the earth, and to earth we shall return. This you ordained
when you created us, saying, “You are dust, and to dust you shall
return.”
All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our
song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with all your saints, where there
is neither pain, nor sorrow nor sighing, but life everlasting. AMEN.
Blessing Philippians 4:7
May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, keep
your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of
God’s Son, Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, remain with you always.
Alleluia! AMEN.
