Introduction to CE Computer Software

and Autodesk Revit

Prepared By:

AdU Civil Engineering Faculty

The system software is a collection
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

of programs designed to operate, control,

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

and extend the processing capabilities of

the computer itself.

In civil engineering, software is mainly

classified into three types

➢ Based on architecture.
➢ Based on structural.
➢ Project management.
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT Introduction to Computer Application for Civil Engineering

Architectural software mainly focus on

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

planning, designing of interior and exteriors.

Structural software help to analysis and

design the structural members.

Project management software have the

capacity to help plan, organize, and manage
resource tools and develop resource
estimates.

➢ Autodesk Revit is a building information

modelling software for architects, landscape
architects, structural engineers, mechanical,
electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers, designers
and contractors.

➢ The original software was developed by Charles

River Software, founded in 1997, renamed Revit
Technology Corporation in 2000, and acquired
by Autodesk in 2002.

➢ The software allows users to design a building and

structure and its components in 3D, annotate the
model with 2D drafting elements, and access
building information from the building model's
database.

PROJECT
BROWSER

➢ Shows a logical hierarchy for all views, schedules, sheets, family, groups, linked Revit
Models, and other parts of the current project.

➢ Can expand/collapse each branch, lower-levels items display.

CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

WORKING
AREA

➢ Displays views (and sheets and schedules) of the current project.

➢ Default view in the drawing area is on top open views.
➢ Default color of default area background is white &can invert the color to black.
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

STATUS
AREA

➢ Located at the bottom of the Revit window.

➢ Provides tips or hints on that to do when you are highlighting an element or a component
➢ Displays the name of the family and type.

➢ Tracking menus that are divided into different sections known as wedges.
Each wedge on a wheel represents a single navigation tool.
➢ Can pan, zoom or manipulate the current view of a model in different ways.

Hidden Line Visual Style

Displays the image with all edges and lines drawn except
those obstructed by surfaces. This style affects the
current view only.

Shaded Visual Styles

Displays image with all surfaces shaded according to
their material color setting and project light locations
and has the option of displaying ambient occlusion. This
setting affect the current view only.

Consistent Colors Visual style
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

Displays the image with all surfaces shaded according to

their material color setting. This style maintains a

consistent shading color so that a material is always
displayed in the same color no matter how it is oriented
to the light source.

Realistic Visual Styles

With Hardware acceleration enabled from the Options
dialog. Displays material appearance in editable views As
you rotate, the surfaces may display as they appear in
various lighting conditions.
