Module 6 Exercise and Application

Learning and Development

Case analysis:

An IT Company (ABC Inc) in Quezon City helps people make connections in business,
education, or creativity. ABC’s hardware, software, and service offerings are used to create
the internet solutions that make networks possible – providing easy access to information
anywhere, at any time. ABC’s Account Managers are the company’s frontline sales force.
A needs assessment found that account managers were concerned because learning
content was not being delivered to them in a way that fits their work patterns or learning
styles. Account Managers spend most of their time traveling, they wanted to get on the
internet, find what they needed, and get out again. They preferred not to sit in front of a
personal computer for a long e-learning course.

As a result, ABC Inc is creating the “Account Manager Virtual Learning Environment”
(AMVLE). The AMVLE is intended to be a development tool and performance support
system based on four (4) business objectives:

1. Increase sales
2. Increase revenue
3. Increase speed at which account managers become competent in a topic
4. Reduce travel and cost

ABC’s goal in developing the AMVLE is to create a learning environment that will motivate
the account managers to use it.

Instructions / Questions:

1. Given the case above, what training methods would you recommend combining the
AMVLE? Explain your methods.

• The training method that I would recommend combining the AMVLE is

Technology-Based Learning because it is the forms of training with
technology are almost unlimited. A trainer also gets more of the learner''s
involvement than in any other environment and trainees have the benefit of
learning at their own pace and I think if the Account Managers used this it will
increase speed at which account managers become competent in topic.

2. Discuss the knowledge, skills, behavior, or competencies that your training methods
would focus on.
• Technology-based learning (TBL) constitutes learning via electronic
technology, including the Internet, intranets, satellite broadcasts, audio and
video conferencing, bulletin boards, chat rooms, webcasts, and CD-ROM.
TBL also encompasses related terms, such as online learning and web-based
learning that only include learning that occurs via the Internet, and
computerbased learning that is restricted to learning through the use of
computers. E-learning is synonymous with TBL and has largely replaced it in
scholarship and industry as the term of choice.

• TBL holds the promise of substantially transforming the way learning takes
place because of its numerous advantages. Among these, TBL fosters
greater accessibility to learning by offering anytime and anywhere delivery. It
is readily scalable to both large and small groups since it can accommodate
larger numbers of learners at little extra cost and smaller groups of learners
that otherwise would not be able to participate in traditional classroom training
for lack of enrollments. Further, the content of TBL courses, especially those
that are delivered online, can be centrally developed and updated whenever
the need arises; therefore, the cost of replacing outdated course materials
and retraining teachers and instructors drops significantly. From the learners’
point of view, TBL can be self-paced and matched to the learner’s needs,
and, building on pedagogy that emphasizes the merits of discovery learning,
it offers the prospect of promoting greater comprehension and retention,
particularly for complex materials, because of its clear opportunities for the
hands-on manipulation of course materials and the use of simulations and
game-playing. Perhaps for these reasons, TBL has witnessed marked growth
in the training marketplace in government, industry, and education.

3. Design your learning and development intervention (LDI) using this format:
