MAKING GREAT THINGS POSSIBLE!

Laguna Creek High School News

April 15, 2020

Welcome Back Parents and Students.

I hope this message finds you well and ready to start distance learning! Distance School “starts” tomorrow,
Thursday, April 16th. Teachers are looking forward to working with their students again and have been working
hard to prepare for and shift their lessons into an online format as we finish the year.

The following guidelines were sent out by the EGUSD Communications Department. It is a nice short summary of
what to do and expect.

 Each family will create their own daily routine or “Bell Schedule”

 Students will check-in once per day per course and may do so for all courses any time before noon. (See
below for details – Checking in for Attendance)

 Students should logs in to the EGUSD Classlink Portal every day; opens Google Classroom and checks-in
using a Google Form for attendance

(Note: Unlike being on a campus, a student may check-in to all of the scheduled courses for the day in the
same sitting without having to wait for a “bell” to go to the next course. Distance learning allows for
greater flexibility for families juggling multiple schedules.)

 Student then checks and reads the teacher's post(s) and checks for assignments

 Student works on assignment(s), which may include watching a pre-recorded video, reviewing a
presentation, answering a quiz or doing self-guided practice from a workbook or other online tool.
Students need to pay attention to assignment due dates for each course. (Note: Student work will often be
self-paced throughout the week and completed on the computer. If a project is to be completed from
physical items, written out on a piece of paper or demonstrates solving a math problem, a student may
take a photo of it and submit it to the teacher in Google Classroom.)
Checking in for Attendance – Students should check into the classes following the same Odd/Even schedule sent
out at the beginning of the year. I have re-shared the calendar for the remainder of the year. As stated above,
students should check into each class for the day before noon. So on April 16th students should check into the
Odd classes – 1, 3, 5, 7. On April 17th they check into their Even classes – 2, 4, 6, 8. This is being done for
attendance purposes only. Please don’t forget to check in with Advocacy and TA classes.

Communication
The best way for you to communicate with teachers and any other staff member during this distance learning model is
through email. It is also very important that we have your current email address in the system. If you need assistance with
ParentVUE, please call the Admin Office Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – 916-683-1339.

As a final note, I’ve told our staff that a key to getting through this new and challenging situation is to be flexible. There are
many moving pieces to doing distance learning for 2,000 students and 100 teachers. Being patient and giving others the
benefit of the doubt will go a long way in helping end the year successfully. Thanks to all those that have offered to assist
and help in whatever way they can. Your positive attitude is uplifting. Take care and please don’t hesitate to contact your
teachers or one of our administrative team.

I hope you all have a great first day of distance learning.
