1. To determine the voltage that must be applied to the magnetizing coil in the figure below in
order to produce a flux density of 0.2 𝑇𝑇 in the air gap. Flux fringing, which always occurs along
the sides of an air gap, as shown in Figure (b), will be assumed negligible. Assume the
magnetization curve of the core material (which is homogenous). The coil has 80 turns and a
resistance of 0.05 Ω. The cross-section of the core material is 0.04 𝑚𝑚2 .

2. A coil wound around a ferromagnetic core is supplied from a 25 𝐻𝐻𝐻𝐻 source. Determine the
percent change in hysteresis loss if the coil is connected to a 60 𝐻𝐻𝐻𝐻 sources and the resultant
flux density is reduced by 60%. Assume the steinmetz coefficient is 1.65, and voltage is constant
3. A certain electrical apparatus operating at rated voltage and frequency has a hysteresis loss of
250 𝑊𝑊. Determine the hysteresis loss if the frequency is reduced by 40 percent rated
frequency, and the applied voltage is adjusted to provide 80.0 percent rated flux density.
Assume steinmetz exponent is 1.6.
