Q.No.1. (Marks…10)
a). What is a Cartesian plan? Discuss in detail. Determine the mid-point and distance
between two points (-6, 5) & (3 & 2) and draw the graph.
b) What are the types of equations? How we solve 1st & 2nd degree equations? What
are the characteristics of slope and show each in graph? Solve the following with
factoring method?
3r 2  14r  8

c) New York City received a federal grant of $ 100 million for improving public
transportation. The funds are to be used only for purchases of new buses, purchases of
new subway cars or repaving of city streets. Costs are estimated at $ 150,000 per bus,
$180,000 per subway car, and $ 250,000 per mile repaving. City officials want to
determine different ways of spending the grant money. Determine the linear equation.
Further, if it has been determined that 100 busies and 200 new subway cars will be
purchased, how many mils of city streets can be repaved.

Answer: CARTESIAN PLAN.

* Cartesian plan or co-ordinate plan contains two axis.

*one is Y-axis which is vertical line.
X
Z
*second is x-axis which is horizantle
There are 360degree in a cordinate plan there four coordinates in a plane
*where x-axis and y-axis is intercept each other then such a point called called origin
of cordinate
*at x-axis the value of y will be zero similarly at y-axis the value of x will be zero
*at right side of the origin the value of x will be positive and at the the lift side x will be
nagitive
*at above the origin y will be positive and at below of the origin the value of of y will be
nagitive

ANSWER 1 (a)
TYPE OF EQUATION
Following are the type of equation
1)1st degree equation
The equation in which the value of variable is equal to one called 1st degree equation
HOW TO SOLVE 1ST DEGREE EQUATION
*SHIFT The variable one side and constant other side
*then simplify the equation

X
Z
2)2nd degree equation
The equation in which the value of variable is equal to 2nd degree equation
How to solve 2nd degree equation ?
2nd degree equation can be solve with following methods
*factorization method*quadratic formula
*complete square method

Slope
The rate of change propotianl change in out put variable due to input
variable is called slope
Characteristics
*the slope of a line is quantified by a real number
*the slope tell us rate at which the value of y changes relatively to change in
the value of x.

Q.No.2. (Marks…10)
a) Question # 4: (05): What is system of equations? What are the possible solution sets
and how we can solve the system of equation? Explain in detail. Solve the given
equations graphically and verify your answer. x + 3y = 6 & 5x -7y = 21
b) Determine the slope-intercept form of the linear equation: Passes through (-4, -1) and
is perpendicular to the line X= 10 and Y=5
c) A portfolio manager is concerned that two stocks generate an annual income of
$15,000 for a client. The two stocks earn annual dividends of $2.40 and $ 3.50 per share,
respectively. If X equal the number of shares of stock 1 and y equals the number of
shares of stock 2. Rewrite the equation in slope-intercept form and interpret the
meaning of the slope and y intercept. Solve for the x intercept and interpret its
meaning?
Answer:

System Of equation.
A system which contain more than one equation is called systemof equation.
How to solve linear Equation
These are four possible methods to solve the system of linear equation
1. Graphical form
2.slope intercept form
3. Elimination method
4. Gaussian approach
Possible soltution set.
Thera are three possible solution set of the system of linear equation
1 Unique solution
2 infinite solution
3 no solution

X
Z

1 Graphical form.(unique solution)

When all lines intersect each other at a single point then we will be having a unique solution

2 NO SOLUTION.
When two lines are parallel and do not intersect each other is called no solution.

3 INFINITE SOLUTION.
When twolines are drawn on each other then there will be
infinite solution.

X
Z

2 SLOPE INTERCEPT FORM.

( UNIQUE SOLUTION )
When m1 ≠ m2 then there will be unique
solution.

NO SOLUTION.
When m1 ≠ m2 but k1 ≠ k2 then there will be no solution.

INFINITE SOLUTION.
When m1 = m2 and k1 = k2 then there will be infinite
solution.

3 ELIMINATION METHOD.
Consider one of the variable bring its co-
efficient equal to the co-efficient of other equation of a same variable by multiplying with
any non zero number.
Then add or subtract the equation to eliminate the considered variable and simplify the
equation.
( i ) Unique Solution.
During elimination of one variable is cancelled and second
remains then we will be having unique solution.
( ii ) No Solution.
During elimination of one variables are cancelled and second remains
then we will be having no solution.
( iii ) Infinite Solution.
During elimination if both of the variables and constant are
eliminated or cancelled then there will be infinite solution.
