PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter provides the presentation of statistical

data relative to the problems as earlier posited.

Corresponding analysis and interpretation regarding these

data also presented in this portion of the study.

Respondents’ Personal Profile

To understand the knowledge and competency of the

participants to become respondents in this study, their

profile are presented below.

The following table presents the distribution and

percentage of the demographic profile of the respondents as

to age.

TABLE 1.1
Profile of the Respondents as to Age

AGE Frequency Percentage

12 90 41.66
13 126 58.34

It can be gleaned from table 1.1 that majority of the

pupil respondents belongs to the age 13 years as shown by

the frequency of 126 or 58.34 % , followed by age of 12

with 90 or 41.66% .
Based on the result of the study, majority of the

respondents were 13 years old , this is the regular age for

the grade V in the Philippine settings.

Table 2 shows that the researchers gender of the

respondents .125 were females with 58.34 and 90 were males

with 41.66%

Both male and female pupils were considered have

different perception regarding the subject math and they

also know the possible hindrances why they cannot understand

the subject math or love the subject.

Table 2 presents the frequency, weighted mean, verbal

description and ranks of responses on the description of the

attitude towards mathematics of the elementary pupils.

The description of the attitudes of the pupils towards

the subject math is given in the table with over all mean of

2.74 and interpreted as agree. The highest mean obtained was

on whatever I do I cannot cope up with lesson in math with

3.67 and interpreted as strongly agree and the least mean

obtained was on I think that my teachers only waiting for

me to commit mistakes with 1.65 in weighted mean and

interpreted as disagree.
Findings revealed that pupils have different attitudes

towards the subject math , some of them loves the subject

math but a large population of pupils hated math due to its

computation activities wherein most of the pupils cannot

follow the right instruction and cannot do the problem

solving activities. This is the results of poor instruction

and deficiencies of the materials used in the subject.

Teachers in mathematics use variety of activities to

let the students fully understand the context of what he/she

is teaching, this may be called the 21st century skills.

However teachers needs also to develop his/her skills in

teaching mathematics , these maybe improvement of the

learning skills of the students , they should improve and

innovate their teaching skills so that students can learn

mathematic in a different way , teacher also needs to

improve his life and career by means of attending different

seminars and meetings to improve their teaching strategies

for the students to cope up the hard lesson in mathematics

and most especially , improving the use of information

technology , sad to say , the traditional teachers is gone

and replace by the 21st century skills in which in other

hand , they were knowledgeable in teaching mathematics with

the help of information technology for the betterment of the

learners especially in mathematics.

Level of performance of the pupils in Math

The level of performance in math of the pupils is

given in the table , there are 69 students whose average age

82-86% which shows that they are in average level , 63 or

87-89% are in above average, 49 or 93-100% are outstanding ,

26 or below average with a grade equivalent of 76-81% and 9

or poor in equivalent with an grade of 75 and below.

Findings revealed that the respondents where in above

average and in average level in the subject math , this

implies that even they have hard time in math subject ,

still they have manage to cope up with their lesson.

Based on the data there is a significant relationship

between the profiles of the respondents including their

the null hypothesis is rejected that there is no significant

relationship between the profile of the respondents to their

attitudes in math .

Findings revealed that the profiles are likely to have

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter presents the brief summary of study,

summary of the findings, the conclusions arrived and the

recommendations offered.

Summary of the study

This study which entitled, “Elementary pupils attitude

towards mathematics”, The respondents of this study will be

the two hundred sixty one Grade 5 pupils in Accfa

elementary school in Cabanatuan City that was selected

through the use of purposive sampling method.

This study used descriptive-qualitative type of

research and will use purposive sampling in determining

respondents who participated in the study.

The main tool in the data gathering is a questionnaire

and their general average grades for the last grading period

this study was conducted during the S.Y. 2017-2018.

Summary of the findings

The following were the summary of the findings of the

study based on the questions provided under the statement of

the problems:

Respondents’ Personal Profile

Age

Majority of the pupil respondents belongs to the age 13

years as shown by the frequency of 126 or 58.34 % ,

followed by age of 12 with 90 or 41.66% .

their Personal Practices

Based on the data there is a significant relationship

between the profiles of the respondents including their

gender .ages and their attitudes towards math, therefore

the null hypothesis is rejected that there is no significant

relationship between the profile of the respondents to their

attitudes in math .

Relationship between the Attitudes and Level of Performance

of the Respondents

Based on the table, the attitudes of the pupils to math

subject have a significant relationship to their performance

in math with 21.13 crit. Value.

Conclusions

After the data collection, analysis and interpretation,

the following conclusions were drawn:

Based on the result of the study, majority of the

respondents were 13 years old , this is the regular age for

the grade V in the Philippine settings.

Both male and female pupils were considered have

different perception regarding the subject math and they

also know the possible hindrances why they cannot understand

the subject math or love the subject.

Findings revealed that pupils have different attitudes

towards the subject math , some of them loves the subject

math but a large population of pupils hated math due to its

computation activities wherein most of the pupils cannot

follow the right instruction and cannot do the problem

solving activities. This is the results of poor instruction

and deficiencies of the materials used in the subject.

It is also revealed that the respondents where in above

average and in average level in the subject math , this

implies that even they have hard time in math subject ,

still they have manage to cope up with their lesson.

The profiles are likely to have relationship to their

practices , their gender and ages have help them or

influence them to eagerly learn the subject math

Findings revealed that the attitudes usually done by

the respondents are directly influence them to learn math.

Recommendations

The following were recommended by the researcher for

further enrichment:

1. Schools should be supplied with pedagogically competent

teachers who are able to prepare and present lessons to

learners. Having qualified teachers organize well

lessons, knows how to make lesson presentation will

ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the teaching and

learning process as they will be in a better position

of directing learners in the right track. Along with

this, teachers should be provided with seminars and

workshops so to improve their pedagogical knowledge.

2. Teaching and learning materials/resources should be

made available. The organs concerned must ensure the

availability of relevant learning materials like books

so that students have enough references rather than

relying in teachers note. It surprising that some

schools have only a single book for each class which is

used only by a subject teacher. If this is taken into

consideration the situation can be improved.

3. There is something to do with motivation. This is for

both teachers and students. It is obvious that in our

schools, science teachers have a very large teaching

load compared to others, and they suffer a lot in

preparing lessons. If these are motivated, they might

not give up easily regardless of having a lot of

periods per week. In case of students, reward should be

given to those who perform better than others. This

will make them increase efforts for doing better and

better.

4. Learning is a progression. This being the case, one

needs to have a good foundation of something in early

years of schooling. In this regard, students should be

prepared to study the subject from the grass root,

which means from primary schools. Primary school

teachers should make sure that they build good

foundation for students to keep on studying the

subject.
5. Parents should also get involved making clear follow
ups on their children‟s academic progresses. They should

guide their children to make them concentrate in

academics. There should be a clear link between

teachers and parents so that they get informed on

whatever is happening as far as student’s academic

matters are concerned
