Aim: To design Solar Power Generation for Home Application.

Apparatus Required: Basic tools of MATLAB Simulink.
Theory: Solar energy is a renewable source of energy that is gaining ground
because of the benefits it offers. In India, sunlight is available in abundance and
there is technology available to harness this energy and convert it into electric
power. Solar power panels serve the purpose of absorbing solar energy and
converting it to electric power through the photovoltaic (PV) effect. Most homes
have a roof or a backyard which can be utilized to install solar panels and produce
electricity.
A home solar system must provide enough electric energy to fulfil all the power
requirements of a home. It should also be capable of providing AC power as
traditionally all homes use AC power to operate lighting systems, gadgets,
appliances and equipment such as computers, refrigerators, mixers, fans, air
conditioners, TVs and music systems.
This application requires following tools to generate electricity from sunlight:
➢ PV Array: Implements a PV array built of strings of PV modules
connected in parallel. Each string consists of modules connected in series.
Allows modeling of a variety of preset PV modules available from NREL
System Advisor Model as well as user-defined PV module.

➢ Pulse Generator: Generate pulses for PWM-controlled 2-Level

converter, using carrier-based two-level PWM method. The block can
control switching devices of single-phase half-bridge, single-phase full-
bridge (unipolar or bipolar modulation) or three-phase bridge.

➢ Universal Bridge: This block implements a bridge which Converts the DC

inputs to AC output, which further can be fed the Load at reacquired
frequency.
➢ PLL: The PLL block models a Phase Lock Loop (PLL) closed-loop control
system, which tracks the frequency and phase of a sinusoidal signal by
using an internal frequency oscillator.
• Simulation Diagram of the Application:

• Working:
▪ AS observation is made for the sun light energy absorbs by the PV array,
for that assumptions are made on an average temperature and sun
irradiance received by the PV array during daytime.
Assumptions:
 Sun irradiance = 1500 𝑤/𝑚2
 Temperature = 25 Cͦ
1. During Sunlight, PV array converts Solar energy into electrical energy
in terms of Voltage and Currents which can be seen into the
measurement ports PV Array.
2. Capacitor is added just after the PV Array to make generated voltage
nearly constant which is then fed to the Universal Bridge.
3. Universal Bridge Converts Constant Input Voltage into 3-Level Output
Voltage.
4. To make 3-Level Output voltage into sinusoid, LC filter is used. It
converts 3-Level voltage to sinusoid.
5. The obtained sinusoid voltage is then fed to the Load for utilization.
6. The various waveforms and Results can be seen below.
• PV array measurement ports waveforms.

• Voltage and current waveform of Universal bridge Output.

• Current and Voltage output waveform of Load Connected:

• Results:
The application is run successfully on MATLAB software. The obtained
Voltage and current waveforms are sinusoid. The generated power is
enough to supply domestic appliances.
