Music Genre Research Project

Choose a Genre of music to research. They could include:

 Blues  Gospel
 Rap  Country
 Rock  Techno
 Jazz  Any other your group is
 Reggae interested in please approve first
Activity: Students can choose to work individually or in groups of up to 4 members. Each group will have a
Project Manager. The project manager will assign jobs to each member and oversee the project flow. Each
member will be responsible for one of the following jobs:
 Research and create biographies of 3 artists of the Genre.
o Include at least one (school appropriate) song you will play during presentation for one artist.
Try to keep the song to 3-4 minutes in length.
 Create a poster or PowerPoint representing the Genre. Colorful, nicely designed and neat is always a
plus.
 Research instrumentation used for the Genre. Provide an analysis of at least 3 of the 7 music elements
used to create the music. Any other background information (history, regions, influences, etc.) for the
genre should be included.
 Present the data to the class. (Project Manager’s responsibility)
