Performance Task 1

“Creating My Own GMOs”

OVERVIEW
Genetic Engineering is also known as genetic modification or genetic manipulation
is a procedure that is used to modify the genetic composition of an organism. Experts use
this process to select desirable traits of an organism to produce better offspring. The
process involves the direct introduction of genes from one species to another to achieve
the desired characteristics (phenotype).

In this activity, you will create transgenic organisms through drawings that you think
will be beneficial to humans and the community.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of this performance task, you are expected to:

 create transgenic organisms through drawings that might be beneficial to

human and the community and
 create human modification/s through a drawing for artistic expression.

MATERIALS
• Drawing Pads of Gadgets
• Bond Paper
 Coloring Materials

PROCEDURE
1. Recall the basic concepts of the genetic engineering process and identify
desirable traits or genes of interest that you think can be introduced to a plant,
animal, or human.

2. Create a drawing of your transgenic organisms based on the following:

a. Plant – must be beneficial to human/community
b. Animal – must be beneficial to human/community
c. Human – for wishful thinking, artistic expression, and creativity purposes only.

3. Your animal and plant drawings will be presented in our next virtual meeting. Kindly
prepare to share them on screen once your name is called. It can be via
PowerPoint or PDF/JPEG format. You are given 1-2 minutes to present your
transgenic organisms (Plant and animal) and discuss why do you think they will be
beneficial to humans/community.

4. The human transgenic organism will only be uploaded in our classroom.

5. Refer to the rubrics on the next page on how your outputs will be graded.

6. Turn in your performance task in our Google Classroom by providing a clear photo
or scanned copy of your works.
