Underwater Diorama Project

Topic: Living Things and Their Environment
(underwater Animals)
1. Each pupil will create an underwater diorama (a scenic representation in which sculpted figures and lifelike details
Are displayed) showing the habitat of animals living in the water.
2. To create the diorama project, a shoe box or other small box may be used as the space for the diorama. The box
should not be bigger than an adult sized shoebox. Learners may use plastic figures or mold items from clay to
represent animals, plants, and objects in their projects.
3. Materials such as magazines (for photos), silk or plastic plants, popsicle sticks, toothpicks, glue, construction paper,
and other craft items may be used. Creativity is encouraged!
4. You will be creating a diorama of a habitat of your choice: (water)
• sea • Ocean • river • lake . pond
5. In your diorama, you should include all of the following:

 You need to cover the inside of your box using paper. This should reflect the habitat that you chose. For
example, an ocean habitat would have a blue background to represent water.
 Write your name and the habitat you chose on the back of the box
 At least 5 animals that live in this habitat
 with plants and other creatures that live in this habitat
 Label the items in your habitat
 At the back of the shoebox, using an index card, describe your habitat by answering the following questions:
- Why did you choose this habitat?
- What types of plants and animals live in this habitat?
- What have you learned while doing this activity?
- How does the animals live underwater? Is it important to know how they live underwater?
- As a grade 4 learner, how can you take good care of the animal habitats around you?

After completing the project, we will display this during the YES-O Camp on November 24-25. This project will be
recorded as your performance task No. 2.
