SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN

TOPIC: KINSHIP BY MARRIAGE


(SOCIAL SCIENCE: UNDERSTANDING CULTURE, SOCIETY AND POLITICS)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
1. Define and explain the different concepts of marriage
2. Discuss how marriage becomes the formation of kinship ties and social networks.
3. Enumerate ways or tips on how to avoid cross-cultural marriage.
4. Appreciate the importance of marriage in the society.

The teacher will group the students into 5 (five). Each group will be given
activity cards about the following questions:

Group 1: What are the personal and societal functions of marriage?


The students will portray the personal and societal functions of marriage
through a short role play.

Group 2: How does marriage extend one’s kinship and social networks?

Mini Talk Show where a host will interview about how marriage extend one’s
kinship and social networks.

Group 3: Find a married individual inside the school and ask a few questions
based on the lesson. Using the table below and the ideas acquired from your
interview, write the common problems and possible solutions of a married life.

Group 4: Which type of marriage is culturally significant or accepted in our society? In


your observations, which type of residency is usually practiced? Which is practical choice
for you?

A “Hugot Line” will be used in the presentation of the culturally accepted


marriage in the society and which type of residency is usually practiced.

Group 5: Describe your “ideal family” in terms of the following:

Composition (monogamous or not)


Marriage (cross-cultural or not)
Residence (neolocal or not)

An imaginative story telling will be used to describe the group dream ideal family
in the future.
