MEMBERSHIP DRIVE 2021

One of SSCC main goals for this year is to retain our current members and recruit new members to join our
club. We will be scheduling several events this year in order to achieve this goal. We will try to schedule a
few membership drives or dock parties and invite as many boaters as possible to attend. Our Fleet Captain
Rob Willison is also putting together a great cruise schedule for 2021.

Each member of SSCC needs to be a part of the Membership Committee. If you know of anyone at your
marina or a dock mate that you might want to invite, please let Membership Chairman Rich know. You can
send an email to bethelou2@aol.com.

Hopefully we will be able to enjoy a boating season this year since the vaccines have arrived. We will be
sending out further information close to the events and will be asking for everyone to volunteer.

From the Fleet Captain: Hey, everybody, I'm sure every one is tired about talking and
thinking winter, winter, winter! As the cold winds turn warmer, its time to think boating
and cruising. You can find the proposed SSCC 2021 cruising schedule on Page 6 of this is-
sue of The Breeze. Every member request has been incorporated into the schedule for a
better cruising season. We are just waiting on final approvals from our partner marinas,
and the summer fun will begin! - Rob Willison, Fleet Captain.

GCBA Patron Ads: It is that time of year again as we begin collecting donations towards
the GCBA Who’s Who Book. Patron Ads are $5.00 per line. Each club that receives over
40 lines wins two free tickets to the GCBA Commander’s Ball. Greater Cleveland Boating
Association is involved in Political Action and the boating rights of all boaters. These do-
nations go toward a worthy cause. If you want to donate, please submit your money and
the name you would like for your Patron Ad to Rich McKee’s attention. We will be collect-
ing until the end of March so please consider donating. Checks can be made out to SSCC.

SSCC web site and Facebook improvements for 2021: With the new year upon us
we’re working to upgrade our web site and improve our Facebook page. We’re working
on new site features and a streamlined, modern design, more current information,
improved functionality, and easy access to essential information for our members and
visitors. The goal is to create good content that benefits and resonates with our members.
In the end we want the pages to be fun and connect members to each other and be a tool to
expand our membership. If you have any ideas to share or content please send to Sheila

News from the Rear Commodore: Looking for some great boat pictures from our
membership! I know some of you have a new (or new to you) boat you've recently pur-
chased. Or you may have a new picture that you can share. I'm looking to update our web-
site landing page and it would be great to bring back our sliding image of all the awesome
boats in our club. I have a few to start with, but more would be even better. Please email
them over to Sheila Busser at sheila.busser@gmail.com.

Last year I took the women on the water io/outboard class and I learned a lot. I met a lot of
great women all with different levels of boat handling experience and the instructors tai-
lored the class for each of us. We learned techniques in how to tie-up a boat, how to properly
prepare to leave the dock that included the main safety steps, launching from the dock, and
docking techniques. We also spent time driving the boat and reviewing the navigation rules
of the water. I would recommend any of these classes if you're looking to gain more hands-

I-LYA Spring Meeting: (Interlake Yachting Association) has scheduled the 2021 Spring
Meeting for the weekend of 03/26/21 – 03/28/21 at the Double Tree in Independence
Ohio. The meeting dates have just been finalized so as of today, a flyer has not been distrib-
uted yet on the meeting details. Once received, we will send out the information in a sepa-
rate email.

GCBA Meeting: Greater Cleveland Boating Association membership meetings are held
monthly. The March meeting is scheduled for 03/09/21 @ 7:30 p.m. via ZOOM. If you are
interested in attending, please contact the GCBA Secretary, Liz Wagner,
at Cleveland.gcba@gmail.com and she will forward the Zoom call-in information.
