INTRODUCTION TO TECHNOPRENEURSHIP
Technopreneurship is an entrepreneur who is tech savvy and is using technology for the purpose of
entrepreneurship- Selladurai, M. (2016)

WHAT IS ENTREPRENEUR?
Entrepreneurship is the manner of turning good ideas into something profitable.
Entrepreneurship is a means of identifying and beginning a business enterprise, sourcing and combining
the required resources and taking both the risks and rewards connected with the enterprise.
Entrepreneurship like technology, has attached extra dimension’s to human life. It is unlikely to ignore that all
sorts of the profession now have resulted from some or other forms of entrepreneurial ventures. Entrepreneurship
and technology both are products of the human intelligence and equally phenomenal is the mixture that is formed
by joining the two concomitantly for the good of the society. There have been different sorts of entrepreneurship
that have evolved over the ages. From entrepreneurship for profitable purposes to social entrepreneurship.
WHAT IS TECHNOP RENUERSHIP?
Technopreneurship was formed from two words “technology” and “entrepreneurship.” The initial application of
the term technoprenuership was in 1987.
But up to date, If you type the word “technoprenuership” or technoprenuer.” You’ll see the word would return
to crooked red underline which is common warning of a misspelled word. Such case would reflect that the term
“technoprenuership” have not yet been extensively known as compared to terms such as entrepreneurship,
technology, cyberspace, e-commerce, we-bay.
(Rajalingam, 2014) noted that, the term technoprenuer is relatively new and is positioning its prominence
through the linkages of science, engineering, and management. It is a job description, which has unfolded through
the realization that the knowledge of entrepreneurship is insufficient with the absence of a sound grounding of
technology-related substance.
Some world still favors calling themselves online entrepreneurs, internet entrepreneurs; and their ventures as
online selling, e-commerce, online trading, or just entrepreneurship. In fact, as of this writing, the word
Technoprenuership is not yet even incorporated in the dictionary.
 This world still causes considerable complexity to ordinary people, and even to some who are actually
in the IT world! The first Asian School to offer a Master of Science in Technoprenuership and Innovation
Program (M.Sc.TIP) is Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. According to some sources,
the word technoprenuership is more popularly used in Asian countries compared to the western world.
(Selvarani, 2015) stated that, technoprenuership is a simple entrepreneurship in a technology intensive
context.
It is a process of merging technology prowess and entrepreneurial talent and skills. (Technology +
Entrepreneurship = Technoprenuership).
WHO IS A TECHNOPRENUER?
The technopreneur is a daring, creative deviator from established business processes and methods
who
continually explores the opportunity to sell new products, technologies, processes, and designs.
(Baumol, 2002) The technoprenuership separates logic from tradition, tradition from prejudice,
prejudice from common
sense, and common sense from nonsense while combining a diversity of ideas from different groups and
disciplines. (Cereijo, 2002)
In short, a technoprenuer is an entrepreneur who is technology savvy, imaginative, innovative,
progressive, attempts to be distinctive and take the unexplored way, and very passionate.

The word technology comes from two Greek words, transliterated tachne and
logos. Techne means art, skill, craft, or the way, manner, or means by which a
thing is gained.
Logos means word, the utterance by which inward thought is expressed, a saying, or an expression.
Technology – is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques,
crafts,
systems, and methods of organization, to solve a problem, improve a pre-existing solution.
Technology is a magical word that has converted the world now. Not only has it made life simpler, in
fact much easier, it has also hastened it. Most of the work is completed only in minutes.
Technology is nothing but the usage and knowledge of tools, crafts, organizational methods, and systems
to solve certain problems or provide services.
